We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Maintenance Craftsperson to join our Estates team on a permanent basis. This position is well‑suited to a confident, hardworking person who is looking to gain experience in a hospital setting.

Job Role

Undertake essential reactive, emergency repair work, alterations and general maintenance to the building infrastructure using specialist knowledge of engineering and/or plumbing equipment and infrastructure. Liaise with the Planning and Scheduling Manager and/or Estates Officer regarding Engineering/Plumbing repairs and maintenance, and to request the supply of appropriate materials. Construct, assemble, erect, and install minor works for the upgrade and alteration, and alterations to assist the maintenance and development of services. Ensuring the provision of a safe, secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Arrange transport of equipment, materials, and tools from the workshop or stores to a point of work identified by the supervisor. Daily duties involve the frequent movement of heavy items of materials and equipment (in excess of 15Kg) with or without lifting aids in accordance with the guidance provided within the Trust’s Lifting and Handling Training Manual. Duties will involve working within areas such as operating theatres, mortuaries, laboratories, or patient diagnostic areas where local policies must be adhered to. Duties will be undertaken within clinical environments which may involve witnessing patients in various stages of their illness or recovery. Works undertaken must be sensitive to the patient’s condition whilst working in a safe and secure working environment.

The Successful Candidate

The ideal candidate will be skilled in maintenance, fault finding, test and repair work on a wide range of engineering/plumbing services and equipment. This role is subject to Standard DBS disclosure.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

Time served apprentice, NVQ III or City.
