As a Maintenance Engineer, you will support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of manufacturing equipment. The role is responsible for maintaining plant availability, supporting continuous improvement, and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards. The role is based in Beaminster, United Kingdom in an onsite capacity.

The Beaminster site is a key production facility within IFF's Cellulosic & Food Protection business. We manufacture a food preservative, E234 (Nisaplin), used in food protection and preservation, serving customers globally. The site runs continuous batch production processes, including fermentation, filtration, pH adjustment, waste treatment (MF & UF systems), and powder recovery operations.

Where you will make a difference:

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and respond to reactive breakdowns across site equipment and utilities.
  • Diagnose faults and implement effective, timely repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Support production teams in maintaining optimal plant performance and resolving operational issues.
  • Ensure all engineering work is carried out in line with site safety procedures, permit systems, and food safety requirements.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation (CMMS, where applicable).
  • Support and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives (reliability, efficiency, cost reduction).
  • Assist with installation, commissioning, and validation of new equipment or modifications (MOC process).
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards (HSE, GMP, environmental controls).
  • Work collaboratively with Operations, Quality, and EHS teams.
  • Support audits and inspections as required.

What makes you the right fit:

  • Proven experience in an engineering/maintenance role within manufacturing (food, pharma, or similar highly regulated environment preferred).
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills (electrical and/or mechanical).
  • Good understanding of PPM systems and maintenance best practices.
  • Experience working with pumps, valves, filtration systems (UF/MF), and process equipment is beneficial.
  • Awareness of food safety and hygiene standards (GMP).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
  • Good communication skills and a proactive, “can-do” attitude.
  • Engineering qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering).

How would you stand out?

  • Electrical qualification (e.g., 18th Edition or equivalent) preferred.
  • Multi-skilled (electrical bias) candidates are highly desirable.
  • Flexible approach to working hours (to support production needs, shutdowns, or callouts if required).
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work in a food manufacturing environment.
