Salary Band: £40,000 – £55,000 per annum (DOE)

Reporting to: Director of Fire Safety

Role Purpose

To undertake and lead complex fire risk assessments across residential, mixed-use and commercial portfolios, including higher-risk buildings. The role requires independent technical judgement, report authorship to a high professional standard, and contribution to quality assurance within a BAFE SP205-accredited environment. This is a senior delivery role with mentoring responsibilities and portfolio-level technical input.

Qualifications

  • Level 4 Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment (Ofqual regulated and industry recognised, accredited route).

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ demonstrable experience undertaking fire risk assessments across a range of building types.
  • Experience leading complex residential assessments independently.

Professional Registration

  • MIFSM (Member of the Institution of Fire Safety Managers).
  • Minimum Tier 2 registration on the Competency Council for Fire Risk Assessors Register (CFRAR).

Technical Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of PAS 79-1 and BS9792 methodology.
  • Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
  • Fire Safety Act 2021.
  • BS8674:2025.
  • Registration with or working towards membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers.
  • Experience undertaking Fire Risk Appraisals of External Walls.
  • Experience contributing to Single Building Assessments in Scotland.

Core Responsibilities

Technical Delivery

  • Undertake Type 1–4 fire risk assessments.
  • Provide proportionate and defensible life safety recommendations.
  • Review fire strategies where relevant to assessment findings.

Quality Assurance Client Engagement

  • Present findings clearly to managing agents, housing associations and developers.
  • Provide reasoned technical advice aligned with current benchmarks.
