Job Description Summary GE Vernova is a purpose-led global energy company committed to electrifying and decarbonising the world.

Within our Power Conversion & Storage (PC&S) business, we support a full portfolio of customers across industry, solar storage, wind, oil and gas, naval, marine, and offshore sectors.

As we continue to grow, we are looking for a seasoned Project Risk Engineer to join our Services Engineering team, based in Rugby or Swansea.

Job Description GE Vernova is on a mission to electrify and decarbonise the world – and the quality of our project risk decisions is central to making that mission a commercial reality.

This is a brand-new role within our Power Conversion & Storage (PCS) business, and you will be the person who defines it.

As our dedicated Lead Project Risk Engineer, you will own the engineering risk function end-to-end – from the moment a tender lands on the desk, through project handover, and all the way to lessons learned at close-out.

As our first dedicated engineering risk specialist in PC&S, you will have the rare opportunity to shape how risk management is practiced across the business, influence the quality of our project bids, and build something that will grow with you.

You will report to the business’ Engineering Leader for Services, supporting a diverse portfolio that spans industrial, solar, wind, oil & gas, naval, and offshore markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, review, and assessment of Project Risk Assessments (PRAs) during the tender and sales phases, ensuring all material risks are captured, quantified, and either mitigated or formally accepted.
  • Attend project review meetings for active service, upgrade, and delivery projects, gaining firsthand insight into real-world delivery challenges and translating these into improvements for future bids.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement and lean operation by systematically feeding project outcomes back into the commercial and tendering processes to prevent the repetition of past issues.
  • Work closely with Service Project Engineers and lead engineers at handover stage to ensure delivery teams fully understand the risk profile they are inheriting.
  • Support bidding teams during the proposal phase by integrating risk findings into bid strategy and pricing decisions.
  • Contribute to the evolution of internal risk assessment tools, templates, and methodologies to improve consistency and quality across the project portfolio.
  • Provide clear, accessible reporting to senior stakeholders on the risk profile of upcoming opportunities and the effectiveness of current mitigation approaches.
  • Participate in contract negotiations and customer engagements where risk expertise adds value, travelling when required (up to approximately 10% of the time).

Essential Requirements

  • An engineering degree or equivalent technical qualification, or substantial practical experience within an engineering or technically complex project environment − what matters is that you can genuinely understand the technical risks involved in our work.
  • Sole British citizenship with a valid British Passport ("UK Eyes only").
  • Possession of or eligibility to obtain UK National Security Vetting clearance to SC level.
  • Proven experience in project engineering, project management, or a related role within a technical services or project delivery environment.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, including the ability to distil complex technical risk into clear, actionable guidance for internal & external stakeholders.
  • The confidence to challenge assumptions, have difficult conversations, and hold firm when risks are not being adequately addressed.
  • Ability to work independently, self-prioritise across a varied workload, and take ownership of outcomes without close supervision.
  • Availability for occasional short-term business-related travel.
  • This role involves work for customers who manage critical infrastructure; based on customer requirements it will be necessary to carry out background checks and suitability assessments (UK BPSS clearance OR UK SC clearance) as part of the hiring process.
  • Valid UK driving license.
  • Nice-to-have qualifications
  • Experience working in power conversion, energy storage, wind, oil and gas, naval, or a similarly complex engineering sector.
  • Familiarity with quantitative risk analysis methods or risk management software (e. g. Safran, ARM, At Risk, or similar tools).
  • Experience supporting tender or bid processes in a commercial or technical capacity.
  • An interest in developing and formalising risk frameworks within a growing function.

What we offer

  • Challenging and exciting projects.
  • A work environment where we understand that not everyone has the same expectations about their jobs, careers and work-life balance and we are happy to discuss flexibility requirements.
  • Attractive compensation consisting of a competitive base salary, annual performance incentives plus benefits.
  • Flexible benefits so you can build a package that fits your personal needs.
  • Some core benefits are: Employer pension contribution (not subject to individual contribution), Income protection, Private Health Insurance and Life Assurance.
  • 26 days vacation + bank holidays.
  • Joining GE Vernova means joining a business with real purpose – helping to decarbonise and electrify the world at a moment when it matters most.
  • Within PC&S, you will be working across one of the most varied portfolios in the business, touching everything from industrial power systems to offshore renewables and naval applications.
  • GE Vernova employees rise to the challenge of building a world that works.
  • We are committed to continued on-the-job learning and development – and in this role specifically, we are open to investing in the tools and software that help you do this job brilliantly.
  • As the first engineering risk specialist in this business unit, you will have genuine scope to shape the role, grow your responsibilities, and – as the function expands – potentially lead a team.
