Overview
GE Vernova’s Power Conversion & Storage business provides electrification systems that are critical to customers’ power and energy needs for their high‑performance applications. We work with some of the world’s major energy, maritime and industrial organizations, helping to enable a transition to energy efficiency and decarbonization, including through our specialist motors, drives and control technologies.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design process of power, control and cooling solutions for power electronics converters to customer specifications.
- Undertake all aspects of power electronics circuits design, snubber design, gating electronics design, thermal design, filters and reactors, etc.
- Manage Bill of Materials (BOMs) for all assemblies, ensuring control through robust change management process.
- Capture, maintain and deliver against design requirements throughout the project life cycle.
- Contribute to Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEAs) and lessons learned; conduct fault analysis and develop protection strategies as required.
- Plan, organise and conduct verification and validation testing of low‑ and medium‑voltage power electronic systems in the megawatt range, including full temperature heat‑run tests, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) tests, overload and abnormal condition assessments, performance evaluation and optimisation.
- Develop clear test methods, capture and document results effectively.
- Ensure power electronic system designs comply with applicable health and safety regulations, international technical standards and class society rules.
- Support attainment of on‑time delivery, cost and quality targets on projects.
- Provide technical assistance to tendering, test and commissioning teams.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers and sub‑contractors.
Qualifications
- Possession of, or capability of obtaining, SC‑level security clearance.
- Relevant academic degree or equivalent qualifications in power electronics or a related discipline.
- Experience in power electronics converter design and understanding of electrical machine control methods.
- Domain expertise in semiconductor devices (diodes, thyristors, IGBTs, GTOs, IGCT, MOSFETs, SiC, GaN, etc.) and related gating electronics, snubber circuits and thermal design best practices.
- Willingness to travel within the UK and overseas for short‑term working.
What will make you stand out
- Experience in control systems design and analysis for power electronic converters and drives.
- Proficiency in modelling, analysis and simulation of power electronic converter systems using standard industrial design tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, PLECS, SPICE, Mathcad, CFD, etc.
- Familiarity with EPLAN (or equivalent) for electrical schematics capture.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, adapt to changing circumstances and leverage ambiguity as an opportunity for growth.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills; demonstrates active listening, consults with stakeholders and communicates proactively.
- Experience with SAP and Teamcenter (PLM).
