We work with major energy, maritime and industrial organizations to enable a transition to energy efficiency and decarbonization through specialist motors, drives and control technologies.
As a Lead Mechanical Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the mechanical design of rotating machines and power generation systems for the marine sector, and for providing product support from initial inquiry to project closure. Reporting directly to the Systems Engineering Manager, you will perform both hands‑on and office‑based activities to ensure the timely delivery of safe and cost‑effective solutions.
Responsibilities- Design rotating machine systems of the highest quality, from receipt of an order to handover to the customer, complying with business procedures, standards, and regulations with a high focus on safety.
- Integrate large electro‑mechanical systems to meet environmental and transversal requirements.
- Plan and execute relevant engineering activities to ensure projects attain on‑time delivery, cost, and quality targets, including testing and documentation.
- Participate in phase reviews, design reviews, ILS reviews, FMEA, and determine attendees, objectives and next steps; act as the review chairperson.
- Liaise with suppliers to produce quotations and support their site activities.
- Ensure issued documents have been reviewed and are of the required quality, adhering to specifications and standards.
- Relevant degree in Electromechanical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent qualifications.
- Proven track record of designing mechanical systems in a professional engineering environment.
- Ability to perform basic structural design and calculations, structural design specifications and mechanical Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Solid understanding of rotor dynamics, including torsional and lateral vibration, shaft lines, bearings, mechanical coupling, and shock absorption.
- Excellent knowledge of thermal and fluid dynamics.
- Experience in testing, verifying and validating rotating equipment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to collaborate and work as part of a wider engineering team.
- Some experience using CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CREO or similar.
- Basic understanding of electrical and power generation principles.
- Sole British citizenship with a valid British passport (UK Eyes only).
- Possession of or being capable of obtaining SC level security clearance.
- Ability to lead a team of engineers.
- Some experience in project management or project planning.
- Prior experience on active magnetic bearings.
