GE Vernova’s Power Conversion & Storage business provides electrification systems that are critical to customers’ power and energy needs for their high‑performance applications. We work with some of the world’s major energy, maritime and industrial organisations, helping to enable a transition to energy efficiency and decarbonisation, including through our specialist motors, drives and control technologies.
Responsibilities
- Support the engineering activities during the production of control systems from order receipt to handover after commissioning and testing at sea.
- Provide a technical interface to customers, classification societies and suppliers.
- Produce design, installation and test documentation; maintain it throughout the project cycle.
- Work with the Drawing Office to produce equipment drawings, electrical wiring diagrams, cable interconnection drawings and interface schedules.
- Perform functional design of HMI, PLC architecture, networks and communication interfaces using standard hardware and software components.
- Write PLC software using IEC61131‑3 programming languages (Ladder diagram, Function block diagram, Structured text, Instruction list, Sequential function chart).
- Design, tag and test control system mimics using HMI SCADA packages.
- Plan and progress design and test activities to meet delivery dates.
- Manage change during the project lifecycle using appropriate change‑management processes.
- Perform factory testing leading to a formal Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) with customer and classification society.
- Support commissioning and sea‑trial phases, normally from the office but with the possibility of vessel visits.
- Provide technical advice and assistance to sales, commissioning and service teams.
Qualifications
- Relevant degree in Electrical, Electronics or Industrial Control Systems Engineering (or equivalent), or significant relevant experience in a professional engineering environment.
- Previous experience designing and integrating control and automation project solutions.
- Good understanding of PLC programming.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Modbus RTU/TCP, OPC‑UA, Profibus, Profinet, etc.).
- Unrestricted Right to Work in the United Kingdom.
What Makes You Stand Out
- Experience in integration of control systems.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards achieving it.
- Knowledge/awareness of Operational Technology (OT) cyber security.
- Basic knowledge of Functional Safety per IEC61508.
- Willingness to travel and spend periods aboard commissioning activities domestically and overseas.

This role involves work for customers who manage critical infrastructure; background checks and suitability assessments (UK BPSS clearance or UK SC clearance) are required as part of the hiring process.
