As an Automation Engineer you will deliver high‑quality automation installations for project testing, from requirement capture and design, through installation, commissioning, test programme delivery, to ongoing service support.
Responsibilities
- Capture requirements and perform detailed design of the automation system, ensuring it is maintainable, extensible, reliable, and efficient.
- Integrate software and hardware components into a unified application.
- Verify and validate the system, including hardware components and the power system under test.
- Liaise with internal teams, customers, and suppliers to facilitate design, produce technical documentation, and support requirements development.
- Provide maintenance, fault finding, diagnosis, repair, upgrades, and development as required.
- Perform factory acceptance testing and commissioning in accordance with the company’s quality procedures.
- Participate in design reviews and assist in other areas of the business as required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Detail‑oriented, collaborative, practical automation professional.
- Advanced experience implementing automation systems.
- Proficiency in PLC programming, HMI creation, and SCADA configuration.
- Experience with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profinet, EtherCAT, and OPC‑UA.
- Knowledge of industrial networks and their implementation.
- Solid understanding of computer programming and software development.
- Hands‑on hardware troubleshooting and software debugging experience.
- Understanding of electrical circuit operation and design.
Desirable advantages: experience in data storage, IT systems; power systems; test & instrumentation; data processing and analysis; instrument/sensor selection; control systems; industrial cyber‑security (IEC62443, Purdue model); substation networking (61850, PRP).
Formal education (Bachelor’s or Master’s in engineering, computer science, or related field) is nice to have, but total experience and professional achievements are the primary focus.
Work Location & Type
This is a permanent position based in the Whetstone, UK office. The role requires on‑site work five days per week.
Security Clearance
Roles that support customers managing critical infrastructure may require background checks and suitability assessments. Candidates must possess, or be able to obtain, UK Security Clearance, including SC Clearance and UK Eyes Only Clearance.
