  • GE Vernova – Electrical Systems Engineer (Marine Power Test Facility)

GE Vernova’s Power Conversion & Storage (PCS) business is developing advanced electrical power systems for the Marine Power Test Facility (MPTF) in Whetstone, UK.

The MPTF is a unique, full‑scale, land‑based test facility for integrated naval power and propulsion systems.

The Systems Engineer will be involved throughout the design, installation, commissioning, and testing of dedicated test beds to support the delivery of world‑leading power‑system solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and specify test equipment and systems for LV/HV switchboards, generators, cables, converters, transformers, motors and auxiliary equipment in AC and DC architectures.
  • Create and validate test scenarios, and manage test operations at the MPTF.
  • Support or perform power‑system studies and analyses using simulation software (MATLAB, Dig Silent, e TAP, PSCAD, PSSE).
  • Generate functional and test documentation and maintain compliance with health & safety, international standards, and marine classification societies (IEC, MIL, DEF).
  • Lead engineering reviews, host technical meetings, and present findings to domain experts.
  • Analyse multi‑source data, prepare technical reports, and demonstrate validation and verification of systems.
  • Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Practical engineering experience in electrical or systems level design, ideally in industrial, marine or naval defence domains.
  • Experience integrating electrical, mechanical and fluid systems in a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of marine classification society, IEC, MIL or DEF standards.
  • Proficiency in power‑system modelling, generator excitation systems, power electronics, and machine drives (PEMD) is desirable.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to deliver reliable real‑world outcomes.
  • High motivation to work independently on complex challenges while maintaining a lean mindset.

Permanent position based in Whetstone, UK. The role is on‑site, requiring presence at the office five days a week.
