- Supporting the product design and systems engineering activities for new and legacy products Product design and evaluation / down selection e.g. Pugh Matrices, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
- Conducting and managing product and process design, development, test, manufacture and evaluation activities whilst ensuring that safety remains the highest priority in the working practices of yourself and the team
- Supervising and coordinating trials in a safe and suitable manner, from planning through to trials execution to reporting and presenting conclusions
- Application of effective Engineering Governance throughout the product development lifecycle supporting design reviews from concept to disposal
- Configuration and maintenance of Engineering Bills of Materials for products
- Supporting the generation of costed proposals for external customers
- Working as part of an integrated project team, including regular engagement with project management, procurement (supply chain) and operations
Your skills and experiences:
- Proven track record of supporting engineering teams and delivering projects
- Strong mechanical/chemical engineering expertise, with a focus on identifying issues, analysing root causes, and proposing effective solutions
- Skilled in report writing and presentation; experienced in planning and executing product performance trials
- Comprehensive experience in product lifecycle management across all stages
- Minimum qualification: HND in a relevant field
- Willing and able to travel to other Land sites as needed
- Practical experience and understanding of manufacturing within high hazard environments
- Familiarity with munitions design and production processes

The Product Development team:
Take on a dynamic role shaping the future of defence technology. As a Product Development Engineer in our Heavy Munitions division, you’ll contribute to the design and development of advanced mortar, naval, and tank systems. From hands-on product trials to full lifecycle engineering, this position offers technical depth, daily variety, and clear progression. Collaborate with a skilled team of four, report to a Senior Product Development Engineer, and access training and development support—plus pathways toward IEng and CEng accreditation.
