Purpose of the Role
The Senior Quantity Surveyor (QS) for the IES Group will be responsible for the commercial management and financial control of multi-utility projects across gas, water, power, and telecoms. This role ensures robust cost management, contract administration, and commercial governance to support the company’s growth and profitability objectives. The Senior QS will provide leadership and expertise across the full project lifecycle, collaborating closely with operational, finance, and client teams to deliver best-in-class commercial outcomes and drive value for the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial Leadership
- Develop and implement commercial strategies for all municipal projects, aligned with IES Group's business objectives.
- Lead the preparation, negotiation, and administration of contracts, ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant legislation.
- Provide expert advice to the Executive Team on commercial risk, opportunity, and value creation.
- Cost Management & Reporting
- Oversee cost planning, budgeting, and forecasting for all projects, ensuring robust financial control and reporting.
- Manage the valuation of works, variations, and claims, ensuring accurate and timely applications for payment.
- Monitor project performance against budgets and targets, identifying and addressing variances.
- Contract Administration
- Ensure all contracts are administered in accordance with their terms and conditions, including NEC, JCT, and bespoke forms.
- Lead the resolution of commercial disputes, claims, and final accounts.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, contract law, and regulatory changes.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, supply chain partners, and internal teams.
- Represent IES Group in commercial negotiations, client meetings, and industry forums.
- Provide regular reports to the Executive Team on commercial performance, risks, and opportunities.
Key Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the utilities sector (gas, water, power, telecoms).
- Strong knowledge of contract law, commercial management, and cost control in multi-utility environments.
- Proven ability to manage complex, multi-site projects and large portfolios.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in value engineering and risk management.
- Demonstrated ability to drive commercial performance and deliver value.
- Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., RICS, CIOB, or equivalent).
