The Renewables team delivers low-carbon infrastructure across district heating, solar PV, battery storage, wind, and heat networks. It plays a central role in supporting the UK’s energy transition by delivering major programmes that reduce emissions, enhance energy resilience, and introduce innovative technologies. The division manages feasibility, design, construction, commissioning, and long-term maintenance, working closely with clients, investors, and regulatory bodies to deliver sustainable and commercially strong outcomes.
Purpose of the Role
The Renewables Team Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Renewable team, ensuring the successful delivery and growth of contracts across district heating, solar, battery storage, wind, and other low-carbon solutions. Operating within a business scaling up to £500m turnover per annum, this role is critical in positioning the Renewable Division as a market leader in the transition to net zero. The role will oversee both business development and operational delivery functions within the Renewables team, working closely with the MD of power and Executive Team to achieve ambitious growth, profitability, and sustainability objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership
- Provide overall leadership and direction for the Renewable team, aligning strategy with the company's growth trajectory to £500m turnover.
- Develop and implement strategies to secure growth, efficiency, and client satisfaction across all renewable sectors.
- Represent the Renewable team, influencing long-term strategy and investment decisions.
- Operational Delivery
- Oversee the delivery of renewable contracts to ensure they are executed safely, efficiently, and profitably.
- Ensure contracts meet client requirements, regulatory standards, and company expectations for quality and compliance.
- Drive improvements in utilisation, delivery efficiency, and margin performance across the division.
- Business Development & Growth
- Work closely with the Business Development Lead within Renewables to secure high-value contracts and frameworks in district heating, solar, battery storage, and other renewable markets.
- Support the development of bids, proposals, and strategic partnerships to achieve ambitious revenue growth.
- Ensure operational deliverability of new business opportunities from bid through to mobilisation and delivery.
- Governance & Risk Management
- Establish governance frameworks to ensure compliance with regulatory, client, and corporate standards.
- Identify risks and opportunities across the division, providing mitigation strategies to the MD of Power, Group COO and Board.
- Report regularly on Renewables performance, risks, and opportunities.
- People & Leadership
- Lead and develop high-performing teams across business development and operational delivery within the division.
- Foster a culture of safety, innovation, accountability, and sustainability throughout the Renewable Division.
- Ensure succession planning, talent development, and leadership capability are in place to support long-term growth.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, investors, regulators, and industry stakeholders in the renewable sector.
- Represent the Renewables team in external forums, strengthening the company’s reputation in the market.
- Engage with external partners, joint ventures, and supply chain to support sustainable and profitable delivery.
