The Business Development Lead for the Renewable Division will be responsible for driving growth, market share, and strategic partnerships within the renewables sector, including district heating, solar, battery storage, wind, and other low-carbon solutions. As the business grows to £500m+ turnover, this role will be central to shaping the renewable energy strategy, securing high-value contracts, and positioning the company as a leading player in the transition to net zero. The role will provide leadership in business development, client engagement, and market expansion, working closely with the CEO and Executive Team to deliver long-term, sustainable growth in the renewable division.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and deliver the business development strategy for the Renewable Division, aligned with the companys ambition to grow to £500m turnover. Identify new markets, clients, and opportunities within district heating, solar, battery storage, and other renewable sectors. Contribute to the Executive Team and Board in setting long-term renewable energy strategy and objectives.
- Business Development & Growth: Lead business development activity to secure major contracts and frameworks in renewables. Build and manage a pipeline of opportunities, ensuring targets for growth and revenue are achieved. Lead the development of bids, proposals, and client presentations to win new business.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with key clients, investors, developers, regulators, and industry stakeholders. Act as the face of the Renewable Division in the market, representing the company at industry events, forums, and conferences. Collaborate with external partners, joint ventures, and supply chain to strengthen the companys market position.
- Governance & Risk Management: Ensure all business development activities are compliant with corporate governance, client requirements, and regulatory frameworks. Assess commercial risks in opportunities and deals, escalating as appropriate the Divisional Director for Renewables. Provide regular reporting on pipeline performance, revenue forecasts, and market intelligence.
- Leadership & Collaboration: Lead and develop a business development team with the skills and capability to deliver growth in renewables. Work collaboratively with operations, commercial, finance, and technical teams to ensure deliverability of secured projects. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and client focus across the division.
Key Skills & Experience
- Extensive business development leadership experience within the renewable energy, utilities, or infrastructure sectors.
- Proven track record of winning and delivering high-value contracts in renewables (district heating, solar, battery storage, etc.).
- Strong understanding of renewable energy markets, funding models, and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience of driving growth in a scaling business (£500m+ turnover).
- Excellent commercial acumen with strong negotiation and deal-closing skills.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain senior client and stakeholder relationships.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to build, inspire, and lead high-performing teams.
