About the RoleWe are looking for a proficient Quantity Surveyor with strong commercial acumen to join our gas team and support the delivery of critical gas infrastructure projects throughout their life cycle. This is a Manchester based role with occasional visits to sites across the UK. This role offers opportunities for growth into regional responsibilities, offering long-term stability and career progression.

The successful candidate will work across a range of civil and mechanical gas-related projects, managing the full spectrum of commercial activities in collaboration with our field based operational delivery teams.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Construction:

  • Review and analyse tender documents, drawings, and specifications.
  • Prepare accurate and competitive cost plans and estimates.
  • Identify and mitigate potential cost risks.
  • Assist in the procurement process, including tendering and contract negotiations.

Construction Phase:

  • Monitor and track project costs against the budget.
  • Value engineer and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Prepare and submit project valuations.
  • Manage and resolve cost disputes and claims.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and industry standards.
  • Ensure payment applications are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Ensure early warnings and compensation events are submitted and responded within contractual time scales.
  • Undertake site visits to assess progress and ensure compliance with contract terms.
  • Prepare and review cost and value reports and margin analysis for projects on a weekly basis; summarise and present to the project team.
  • Track project costs, identifying any potential overruns, risks, or savings.
  • Prepare and submit progress reports, payment applications, invoices, and conduct final accounts.
  • Manage change control in accordance with the contract, collate evidence to support change event applications, and negotiate final outcomes.
  • Evaluate and process subcontractor payment applications, including change events.
  • Track and report on cash flow, monitor incoming payments, and ensure timely payments are received in accordance with contract terms.
  • Attend weekly client meetings, ensuring timely completion of actions.

Post-Construction:

  • Prepare final accounts and cost reports.
  • Conduct post-project analysis to identify lessons learned and improve future project performance.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all project costs and financial transactions.

Other Duties:

  • Provide support to other members of the project team.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of company processes and procedures.
  • Collaborate with project managers, planners, engineers, and contractors to ensure timely, on-budget project completion.
  • Conduct valuations and manage day-to-day project financials.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of cost control principles and techniques.
  • Excellent analytical skills with high attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience in the Civils/Mechanical/Utilities sectors an advantage.

Education / Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years experience working as a Quantity Surveyor OR a Bachelors degree in Quantity Surveying with at least a years experience.
