About the Role:
As a Senior Control Systems Engineer, you will lead the Design, Execution, Validation of Automation projects. You will ensure compliance with Functional Safety, Machinery Safety, IACS Cyber Security standards / directives and manage client relationships. You will provide mentorship to Junior Engineers. This role requires strong technical expertise across multiple control platforms and proven leadership in delivering complex automation projects in Highly Regulated, GxP environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop / Review and approve Technical Documentation, System Designs, Wiring Drawings, P&IDs.
- Lead the Design, Programming, Testing, and Commissioning of PLC / SCADA / HMI / Drives & Motors.
- Manage and Execute Thermal Mapping and Validation Protocols.
- Execute FAT, SAT, IQ, OQ, PQ protocols and conduct site commissioning.
- Lead preparation for ISO, Cyber Security, and client HSE audits.
- Deliver solutions in Highly Regulated Industries, ensuring full adherence to GxP requirements.
- Function as client interface throughout project delivery.
- Mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and leadership.
- Participate in the on-call rota for out-of-hours support (remote or onsite).
- Provide holiday cover for site-based personnel (Wiltshire area) up to 25 days per year.
Skills & Experience:
- Degree in Control, Electrical, Automation Engineering or similar.
- Minimum 5 - 7 years experience in control system design, commissioning, and project delivery.
- Expertise with Rockwell and Siemens PLCs (Mitsubishi, Omron, Schneider, Wago advantageous).
- Strong knowledge of InTouch or Ignition SCADA / HMIs (WinCC, Rockwell FTV GE iFIX advantageous).
- Experience with commissioning motors and drives advantagious (Festo / Siemens Starter / Sinamics).
- Working knowlege of Industrial Communication Protocols (Profibus, Profinet, MPI, Modbus, Red Lion Data Station).
- Skilled in ELV/LV Electrical Control Panel Wiring and advanced fault-finding.
- TV Functional Safety or CMSE or Cyber Security qualification advantagious (Training provided if not currently qualified).
- Basic knowledge of CAD packages advantageous (AutoCAD Electrical / SkyCAD / VISIO)
- Strong project leadership, client-facing, and mentoring skills.
Location:
- IES UK Office is Nottingham, UK. Option to work from office is available if required. This is usually limited to project kick-off or testing / FATs.
- This role is predominantly work from home or on customer sites.
- UK & Republic of Ireland wide travel can be involved but majority of the works is based in Leeds Area (Project works) / Wiltshire area (Maintenance & Continuous Improvement Works) for the coming years (travel to customer site expected to be approx 50% of the time).

- The successful candidate must be able to pass BPSS Screening.
- Able to obtain SC Security Clearance (exceptional candidates on final year of ILR / equivalent may be considered).
