Overview

Position Summary:

Responsible for independently inspecting and monitoring construction activities to ensure completion per the plans and adheres to all specifications and codes required. This position will notify project management of significant issues and complete documentation to attest to satisfactory completion of inspection or test activities per project specifications. Employee must develop a thorough understanding of the project scope and schedule as they relate to their specific assignment.

Location & Travel Details:

You’ll get the opportunity to travel across the US, helping our team build renewable projects. This is a traveling position, up to 100% of the time. You have the potential to be placed on a project site located in any state throughout the US. You’ll spend 8-12 months on average per project. We offer designated daily per diem in addition to base pay to support and help you cover living expenses. This position is eligible for routine travel home (rotation) from the jobsite. This role is eligible for a monthly vehicle and phone allowance.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures
  • Inspect and ensure the quality of work performed during the daily activities of the overall construction on a large-scale wind and/or solar project. May include but not limited to; roads, environmental (SWPPP), excavations, concrete, rebar, substations, transmission lines, underground utilities, wind turbine installation and solar system installation
  • Determine that construction work is in conformance with the design documents
  • Review tests and inspection reports to ensure that all required tests are completed and communicate all failing tests and/or inspections to the Field Quality Manager to assess
  • Ensure all materials associated with installation are in accordance with approved submittals, purchase order, and product data to ensure compliance with job site specifications
  • Perform basic to moderate surveying and necessary measuring to check line, grade and dimensions of roadway, and structural elements
  • Plan and conduct daily activities in a highly organized manner to ensure all QC and QA data are properly and accurately recorded
  • Monitor and record all work scope being executed and prepare a comprehensive Daily Report with measurement of daily quantities completed and resources utilized
  • Prevent deficiencies through preconstruction quality control inspection
  • Detect deficiencies and addressed deficiencies in a timely and effective manner
  • Work closely with the Field Quality Manager and site management as the field representative ensuring construction complies with the QA/QC requirements, scope, and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Interface with construction managers to maintain an open line of communication, report job progress, schedules, subcontractor performance and coordinate the operation of the field through management of field personnel
  • Assist in compiling all necessary information to create operations and maintenance manual(s)/file(s)
  • Assist Logistic Management to ensure that the receiving process, inventory process and Standard Operation Procedure is complied with when materials arrive to site: inspection, offload, receiving, and storage
  • Inspect work and subsequently establish and manage punch lists for work completed in the field for the assigned discipline(s) to support the quality control process
  • Assist in managing and maintain production and extra work authorization log, identifying items and their resolutions
  • May aid in preparing and distributing daily project updates to necessary parties (POD)
  • May aid in the daily validation process of calibrated tooling and capable of determining calibration status of measuring and test equipment
  • Utilize construction management software for quality inspections, maintaining quality control documentation, data collection, and inputs
  • May assist or participate in phase gate preparations or presentations
  • Assist the Field Quality Manager with the benchmarking process and job book development and turnover
  • May be responsible to mentor and train Quality Inspectors in their respective duties and responsibilities
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

Field Engineer I:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil, Mechanical Engineering or related degree preferred
  • High School graduate or equivalent and 2 or more years’ experience in related construction field
  • Must be capable of completing and passing the local or state certified SWPPP inspector program and have working knowledge of SWPPP project management plan

Field Engineer II:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil, Mechanical Engineering or related degree and one to two years’ experience in related construction field
  • High School graduate or equivalent and three or more years’ experience in related construction field
  • Must be capable of completing and passing the local or state certified SWPPP inspector program and have working knowledge of SWPPP project management plan.

Field Engineer III:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil, Mechanical Engineering or related degree and two to three years’ experience in related construction field preferred
  • High School graduate or equivalent and four or more years’ experience in related construction field

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward the Company’s Zero Injury principles
  • Self-starter, organized with strong interpersonal and written skills
  • Advanced computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Proficient in the use of computers and software packages needed to support the documentation, analysis and retention of quality records
  • Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and effectively manage task independently
  • Read, analyze and interpret blueprints and technical procedures
  • Write daily reports and document project activities
  • Effectively collect and record field data to assure activities are conforming to corporate Quality Control procedures
  • Ensure the effective implementation of the quality control program for assigned project task
  • Calculate figures and amounts and able to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to communicate clearly and interface effectively with a diverse group of field level employees

Working Environment:

  • Willing to work flexible hours and shifts, including overtime and night shift
  • Jobsites work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
  • This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises
  • Be comfortable with physical work that requires climbing stairs and ladders frequently
