We’re seeking an experienced Technical Architect to play a key role in shaping and assuring enterprise-wide technology solutions for a major infrastructure programme.
This is an opportunity to influence complex technical architecture across a large-scale, highly regulated environment, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, resilient and aligned with long-term business objectives.
Reporting to the Technical Assurance Manager, you’ll provide technical leadership across projects, working closely with internal stakeholders, architecture teams and Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers. You’ll help ensure that technical designs meet enterprise architecture standards, satisfy regulatory obligations and deliver sustainable, high-quality outcomes throughout the project lifecycle.
The role offers the opportunity to contribute to a nationally significant energy infrastructure programme, with technology playing a critical role in supporting its successful delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Architecture: Lead the design and assurance of technical solutions across cloud platforms, infrastructure, networks, integration services and application environments.
- Architectural Governance: Ensure solutions comply with enterprise architecture principles, technical standards, security frameworks and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Design Assurance: Work with the Technical Assurance Manager to oversee architecture deliverables throughout the project lifecycle, from initial design through to implementation and operational handover.
- Supplier Management: Provide technical direction and subject matter expertise to external suppliers, ensuring their deliverables meet agreed contractual, technical and quality standards.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with business stakeholders, project delivery teams, infrastructure specialists, developers and fellow architects to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Cyber Security: Embed security by design into technical architectures, ensuring solutions align with enterprise security policies and regulatory expectations.
- Integration & Interoperability: Support integration planning across a complex, multi-supplier environment, ensuring technology components work together effectively.
- Architectural Governance Forums: Contribute to the Architecture Review Board and other governance processes, providing technical recommendations and challenging designs where necessary.
- Technology Innovation: Assess emerging technologies and digital transformation opportunities, recommending approaches that improve efficiency, resilience and long-term value.
- Risk Management: Identify and assess technical risks, resolve design challenges where possible and elevate significant issues to the Technical Assurance Manager.
- Extensive experience in a Technical Architect or equivalent architecture role within a large-scale, complex or regulated environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of enterprise architecture, including cloud technologies, infrastructure, networks, integration and application platforms.
- Proven experience designing and assuring secure, scalable, reliable and cost-effective technical solutions.
- A track record of providing architectural oversight and assurance for solutions delivered by third-party suppliers.
- Experience working across multi-supplier delivery environments, coordinating technical designs and ensuring interoperability.
- Strong understanding of cyber security principles and their application within complex or regulated organisations.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior technical and non-technical audiences.
- The ability to assess technical risks, challenge proposed solutions constructively and make informed architectural decisions.
- Security Check (SC) clearance, or willingness to undergo the required vetting process.
- Experience within the nuclear, energy or another highly regulated sector.
- Knowledge of large-scale infrastructure or major capital project delivery.
- Professional certifications such as TOGAF, ITIL or cloud certifications covering AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform.
- Familiarity with enterprise digital transformation, emerging technologies and modern architectural best practices.
- Experience supporting major infrastructure programmes involving complex supplier relationships.
