ABOUT THE JOB

We are looking for a Senior Substation Engineer - Protection and Control Engineer to join the team of Energy in our offices Manchester. IDOM is a global engineering consultancy with a strong reputation in the energy sector. In the UK, we are growing to support utilities with substation projects, bringing our experience from major projects around the world from power grid and renewable energy to hydro pumped storage plants, synchronous condenser plants, interconnectors, and other critical infrastructure.

Core responsibilities:

  • Define and implement protection schemes for transformers, busbars, and feeders
  • Design IEC61850 architecture and SCADA integration
  • Supervise relay logic configuration and FAT/SAT testing
  • Ensure compliance with UK utility standards and protection philosophies
  • Perform protection coordination studies as part of system validation
  • Provide technical leadership and client interface for utilities
  • Act as main technical contact for clients and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams

  • Have Degree or master’s in electrical engineering
  • Have over 8 years in substation design (P&C)
  • Ability to work autonomously and lead design packages
  • Mentor and support junior engineers within the team
  • Familiarity with UK utility standards
  • Tools: AutoCAD/MicroStation, DIgSILENT, PSCAD, CDEGS (desirable)
  • Spanish language is a plus
  • Chartered Engineer status desirable but not essential
