IDM Energy is looking for an experienced Plumbing & Heating Engineer to join our growing team, based from Inverness. We deliver high-quality plumbing, heating and renewable energy solutions across Scotland and further afield, working on a wide range of residential, commercial and industrial projects. The work is varied, the locations are far-reaching, and no two days are quite the same — so if you like practical problem solving, a bit of travel, and work you can take pride in, this could be the role for you.

At IDM Energy, how we do the job matters just as much as getting it done. We value people who take ownership, work safely, communicate properly, support their team, and treat clients, colleagues and suppliers with respect. In plain terms: do good work, make sound decisions, look after the people around you, and don’t leave a mess behind — literal or otherwise.

The role

As a Plumbing & Heating Engineer at IDM Energy, you’ll be involved in the installation, service, maintenance and repair of plumbing and heating systems across a variety of sites. You’ll work with both traditional heating systems and, where required, renewable technologies such as heat pumps and other low-carbon solutions.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Installing, servicing and maintaining plumbing and heating systems
  • Diagnosing faults and delivering practical, high-quality repairs
  • Working across residential, commercial and industrial environments
  • Supporting renewable heating installations and maintenance
  • Working independently or as part of a wider project team
  • Making sensible decisions on site and escalating issues when needed
  • Communicating clearly with clients, colleagues and office-based teams
  • Maintaining high standards of health, safety and workmanship
  • Representing IDM Energy professionally while on site and on the road

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for a skilled engineer with the right attitude — someone who takes pride in their work, thinks ahead, and understands that reliability, respect and clear communication are part of the job.

You’ll need:

  • Proven experience in plumbing and heating
  • Gas Safe registration or experience with renewable heating systems such as heat pumps or solar thermal
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • A professional, reliable and proactive approach
  • A commitment to safe, high-quality workmanship
  • A valid UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel across Scotland and further afield when required

You’ll fit in well if you’re the kind of person who wants to do the job properly, supports others when needed, and can be trusted to make good decisions when you’re out representing the company.

What we offer

Your skills deserve a strong package in return. At IDM Energy, we offer:

  • Salary of £34,000.00 – £41,000.00 per annum
  • Overtime available after 37.5 hours per week
  • Bonus opportunities
  • Paid travel time in line with company policy
  • Company van and fuel card
  • Private medical, dental and optical insurance
  • Company pension scheme
  • Growth shares
  • Enhanced maternity leave
  • Discounted gym membership
  • 30 days’ annual leave
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • Opportunities to work with renewable and low-carbon technologies
  • A supportive team environment with room to grow

Why IDM Energy?

At IDM Energy, we’re not just fitting pipework and heating systems — we’re helping clients move towards better, smarter and more sustainable energy solutions. You’ll be joining a team that values quality, professionalism, teamwork and continuous improvement. We invest in training and development, support people to grow, and expect everyone to play their part in keeping standards high.

From Inverness, our work takes us across Scotland and beyond. Some jobs are straightforward, some are challenging, and some come with weather that has clearly taken things personally — but the work is rewarding, varied and full of opportunity.
