We are recruiting a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our Wastewater Division based at Maple Lodge STW. As a successful candidate, you will use your mechanical and electrical knowledge and experience to inspect, maintain, diagnose faults, test, install, modify or repair mechanical plants and associated electrical equipment in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.
Responsibilities
- Carrying out scheduled maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns.
- Investigating plant failures and carrying out repairs quickly and efficiently to avoid interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults and repairing during incidents.
- Providing technical advice, referring to up‑to‑date technical knowledge, and supporting or training technical trainees when required.
- Working on pumps, control gear, 3‑phase motors, starters, electronic control systems (VSDs, PLCs, variable speed drives), automatic valves, penstocks, flow, level and pressure measurement equipment, chemical handling and dosing equipment.
- Participating in a standby rota after relevant training.
Location & Working Pattern
- Location: Maple Lodge STW – WD3 9SQ
- Working Pattern: 38 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 7:30 am – 3:36 pm. Standby and overtime opportunities can increase earnings by £8,000‑£10,000 per year.
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ or C&G Level 3 in electrical engineering, with an up‑skill in mechanical NVQ2/3 considered crucial.
- Time‑served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems working in a “true multi‑skilled” capacity.
- Mechanical and electrical dual‑skilled status preferred; individuals with only one discipline may be developed to dual‑skilled status.
- Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues.
- Physical fitness required for work in confined spaces.
- Successful completion of the appropriate training is necessary.
- A valid driving licence is essential.
