We have an exciting opportunity to join Thames Water as a Metering Network Technician.

The Network Metering Technician will ensure the effective maintenance and repair of district / zonal meters and critical pressure points with the aim of increasing the reliability and availability of the reporting systems.

Providing a high level of technical input, a typical day will involve you travelling around your designated region, fixing and repairing zonal and district meters as well as critical pressure points using a combination of well-honed fault diagnostic procedures and specialist test equipment.

  • Base location: North and South London – Deptford (SE137RE) & Coppermills (E177HE). Travel to additional sites across London will be required depending on business needs.
  • Working pattern or hours: 38 hours per week (Mon-Fri).
  • Full UK Driving License Required.

What you’ll be doing as a Metering Network Technician:

  • Carrying out planned reactive maintenance on district /zonal meters and critical pressure points
  • Use current planning systems to review all activity and retrieve the activity to carry out suitable maintenance
  • Use technical systems to ensure the correct diagnosis of underground failures
  • Making technical decisions on work being carried out, keeping in mind the impact on the network as well as how customers, internal and external, are affected
  • Working with field teams and the control function to determine the cause of complex/difficult flow and pressure issues
  • Maintaining key material/equipment stocks and liaising with the Network Metering Team Manager to ensure contingency stock is available to mitigate impacts to customer service

What should you bring to the role?

  • Time served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems working in a “true multi-skilled” capacity is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, BTEC or C&G level 3 in electrical/electronic engineering is desirable.
  • Electrical instrumentation experience is desirable and ideally should be at least City and Guilds or equivalent, qualified in this area.
  • Previous experience in a similar role will be highly advantageous
  • Previous experience within the electrical trade would be highly advantageous, in particular with any instrument programming knowledge
  • You will be driven, self-motivated and with excellent organisational skills and must have a strong awareness of compliance and health and safety
  • Working with SCADA systems and programming of equipment is required, as is the ability to learn bespoke packages
  • You will have demonstrable experience of being reliable, trustworthy and hardworking with a proactive approach to your daily tasks
  • You will be confident communicating with internal colleagues as well as the general public
  • Due to the nature of the role, ideally with knowledge of the Road Traffic Management Act (NRSWA), although full training regarding this can be provided.
