We currently have a great opportunity for an experienced Mechanical & Electrical Maintenance Technician to join our Thames Water Ring Main Maintenance Team in London. This is a fantastic opportunity for a maintenance technician to join a close-knit, diverse team, all performing at a high level. This role offers great learning potential with the ability to cross-skill into other disciplines.
As the successful candidate, your role will be to ensure that all equipment at our water treatment works is running safely and efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods.
What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical & Electrical Technician:
- Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns.
- Investigating plant failures and carrying out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process.
- Providing technical advice, referring to up-to-date technical knowledge, and providing training or support for technical trainees if required.
- Working on various pumps and associated control gear, 3 phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSD’s, automatic valves and penstocks, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls, chemical handling and dosing equipment.
- Participating in a stand-by rota following the relevant training.
Base Location: Merton Well - SW19 2EB
Working Pattern: 38 Hours Monday- Friday 7:30 am – 3:36 pm plus standby & overtime opportunity increasing earnings by a potential £8-£10k. All PPE, tools are provided.
What you should bring to the role:
- A time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems working in a “true multi-skilled” capacity.
- Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering with an upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3 is crucial.
- Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are crucial.
- Physical fitness, as you will work in confined spaces with successful completion of the appropriate training.
- A valid driving licence is essential, and all necessary equipment, such as vehicle and tools, are provided.

- Be a self-motivated individual who can immerse themselves into the team around them, disciplined, with a desire to learn from those around you and a can-do attitude.
- Take ownership of responding quickly to faults, being curious to fully understand the problem, and identifying the best solution to resolve it the first time.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with the team.
- Be proactive – take the lead on recommendations and improvements around the site and communicate effectively.
- Be prepared to be trained in safety procedures.
