We are seeking to appoint a motivated and organised School Cook to lead our kitchen team. This is a vital role within our school, ensuring that our pupils receive high-quality, nutritious meals that support their health, learning, and wellbeing throughout the school day.

As a Grade 3 Cook, you will take a lead role in the daily operations of the kitchen. Working under the direction of the Catering Manager, you will be responsible for the preparation and service of fresh meals while ensuring full compliance with school food standards and legislative requirements. You will provide essential on-site leadership, managing staff rotas and team performance to ensure a professional and efficient service for our pupils and staff.

Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday - Term-Time only - 8am to 2pm

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Team Leadership: Leading and supporting a catering team to ensure a high-quality service, while identifying staff training needs to support the professional development of your colleagues.
  • Operational Excellence: Overseeing the daily running of the kitchen and using school kitchen software to maintain accurate service records.
  • Quality & Compliance: Preparing meals according to pre-planned menus and ensuring strict adherence to food safety, hygiene, and dietary requirements.
  • Service Delivery: Building positive relationships with the school community and maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming dining environment.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have proven experience in a professional catering environment with a focus on high standards.
  • Be a confident leader who can motivate a team and effectively manage the daily demands of a busy kitchen environment.
  • Hold a Food Hygiene Certificate and an NVQ Level 2 in Food Preparation and Cooking (or equivalent).
  • Be proactive, with the ability to manage kitchen technology and digital record-keeping.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the school’s values and the welfare of our pupils.
