We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Electrical Maintenance Technician to join our team within the Cherwell area of the Thames Valley North Wastewater Operations Region. As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for ensuring that all electrical equipment across our wastewater treatment sites operates safely, efficiently, and reliably. You will use both proactive and reactive maintenance techniques to keep critical assets running and support the resilience of our sites.

What you’ll be doing as an Electrical Maintenance Technician:

  • Proactively and reactively maintain the electrical assets across the Cherwell sites.
  • Investigate plant failures and carry out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process.
  • Carry out service and replacement of assets, including pumps and associated control gear, 3‑phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSDs, automatic valves and penstocks, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls, and chemical handling and dosing equipment.
  • Support local maintenance teams, carrying out planned and breakdown maintenance activity on electromechanical wastewater assets.
  • Provide technical advice to the wider team, referring to up‑to‑date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required.
  • Undertake fault diagnostics and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Interpret and update electrical drawings.
  • Provide timely feedback on work carried out on a daily basis.
  • Monitor treatment processes using the SCADA system and act on alarms as required.

Base Location: Banbury STW – OX16 4RZ

Working Pattern and Hours: Monday‑Friday 7:30‑15:36, 38 hours per week, including working on a call‑out rota with additional payment. All PPE, tools, plus a van will be provided.

What you should bring to the role:

  • Considerable experience in electrical and systems, a time‑served apprenticeship in an engineering sector, NVQ level 3 or greater in electrical engineering.
  • Qualifications in BS 7671 or 18th Edition electrical wiring regulations.
  • Experience maintaining, testing, installing and fault‑diagnosing electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Experience with 3‑phase systems.
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety policies and processes.
  • Physical fitness to work in confined spaces, with appropriate training.
  • Participation in a 24/7 out‑of‑hours standby rota after suitable training and assessment, with additional payment.
  • A full UK driving licence.
