Role purpose
The Director of eCommerce is the senior Shopify authority within the Web Division, responsible for how Shopify is delivered, scaled and evolved across the group. Pragmatic, delivery‑focused and commercially aware, they are a strong communicator who can influence and align teams, build trust quickly with clients and internal stakeholders, and remain curious and proactive about platform evolution. The role ensures Shopify solutions are architected and delivered to a consistently high standard, translating platform capability into clear, practical advantage for clients. Working closely with Client Services, PM, UX and Engineering, this role bridges platform expertise and execution to drive long‑term client success.
Key responsibilities
- Shopify Delivery & Standards
- Own the quality, scalability and consistency of Shopify and Shopify Plus delivery across the group
- Define and maintain best practice standards, architecture patterns and implementation approaches
- Provide senior oversight on key Shopify decisions, ensuring solutions balance speed, cost and long‑term value
- Support delivery teams in making confident, well‑informed platform decisions
- Platform & Ecosystem Leadership
- Maintain deep expertise in the Shopify platform and wider ecosystem
- Translate platform developments and opportunities into clear actions for clients and internal teams
- Ensure Shopify capability is actively leveraged to improve client performance and future readiness
- Build and maintain a strong relationship with Shopify
- Client Strategy & Support
- Support Client Services and Account teams in shaping e‑commerce strategy and roadmaps
- Act as a senior advisor in key client conversations, bringing credibility and clarity to Shopify decision making
- Ensure Shopify roadmaps are practical, phased and commercially aligned
- Cross‑Team enablement
- Partner with Client Services, PM, UX and Engineering to ensure aligned thinking and high‑quality execution
- Provide clear direction that reduces ambiguity and improves consistency across Shopify work
- Support new business scoping with delivery‑safe input on feasibility and solution design
- Capability & Team Leadership
- Line manage and develop the Shopify Solutions Consultant team
- Set clear standards for how Shopify expertise is applied across clients and projects
- Ensure insights from client work are fed back into standards, roadmaps and continuous improvement
- Build confidence and capability across delivery and UX teams
