We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Technical SEO Specialist to join our Audience Development team. This role focuses exclusively on technical SEO tasks for our portfolio of digital consumer-tech brands PCWorld, Macworld, Tech Advisor, TechHive and their international cousins). As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for optimizing our websites\’ technical infrastructure to ensure optimal search engine indexing, performance, and visibility. You will collaborate closely with developers, product teams, and other stakeholders to drive organic growth through technical enhancements.
Type of contract: Permanent, full-time position
Location: Ideally London. If you are farther away from London but are willing to occasionally travel to our London office, feel free to apply.
You will be working on the following:
- Website Audits: Conduct regular technical SEO audits, identifying and resolving issues related to crawling, indexing, rendering, and ranking.
- Page Speed Optimization: Work with product, indirect and development teams to ensure optimal site speed and performance by leveraging best practices in image optimization, caching, server-side improvements, and Core Web Vitals enhancements.
- Crawling and Indexing Management: Ensure that the sites are efficiently crawled and indexed by search engines, managing robots.txt files, sitemap updates, canonical tags, and structured data.
- Mobile Optimization: Ensure that all digital properties are mobile-friendly and optimized for mobile-first indexing.
- Technical Recommendations for Redesigns: Provide SEO-related technical guidance during website redesigns, migrations, and new feature launches to preserve or improve organic search performance.
- Schema Markup and Structured Data: Optimize and maintain schema markup and structured data to improve SERP presence and optimize for featured snippets, knowledge panels, and other rich results.
- SEO Tools and Platforms: Manage and utilize SEO tools such as Google Search Console, Bright Edge, Ahrefs, and other platforms to monitor site health and performance.
- Site Architecture and Internal Linking: Advise on best practices for site architecture, URL structures, and internal linking to improve organic search visibility.
- Technical Reporting: Create and maintain detailed technical SEO reports for the Audience Development team, highlighting performance trends, technical issues, and areas for improvement.
- Collaboration with Developers and Product Teams: Work closely with the development and product teams to implement SEO recommendations and ensure SEO best practices are followed during site updates.
- Log File Analysis: Analyze server logs to monitor crawl behavior and identify any technical issues that could hinder search engine performance.
- HTTP Status Code and Redirect Management: Ensure proper use of HTTP status codes (301, 302, 404, etc.) and manage redirection rules to prevent SEO issues like redirect chains and 404s.
- Site Security: Collaborate with the IT team to ensure that all websites maintain high security standards, including SSL implementation and HTTPS protocols.
- Penalty Monitoring and Recovery: Monitor the sites for any manual or algorithmic penalties and develop recovery strategies if necessary.
Who are we looking for?
- Bachelor\’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3-5 years of experience in content SEO, ideally within digital publishing or the consumer technology space.
- Fluency in both spoken and written English is a must, additional languages are an advantage.
- Demonstrated success in developing and executing content SEO strategies that drive organic growth.
- Strong experience with SEO tools such as Ahrefs, SEMrush, or Moz, specifically for keyword research and content performance analysis.
- Proven ability to collaborate with editorial teams to produce SEO-friendly content without compromising editorial integrity.
- Experience working with content management systems (CMS), especially WordPress or similar platforms.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across teams and departments.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to derive insights from data and make data-driven content recommendations.
- A passion for consumer technology and staying informed on the latest industry trends.
- Experience in working with affiliate and commerce teams to optimize content for revenue generation.
- Understanding of the intersection between content SEO and audience development strategies.
- Experience working in a global content environment with multiple digital brands.
