SUMMARY

Part of the IDEX Corporation, Precision Polymer Engineering Ltd is a manufacturer and supplier of high performance, niche elastomer seals used in critical applications around the globe. PRIMARY FUNCTION:

  • To lead the final inspection team during the shift, progressively driving shift performance and adhering to inspection standards.
  • To provide an excellent service to our customers ensuring clear and concise communication including job status updates.
  • To consistently achieve and exceed KPIs respective to their department in terms of Efficiency, Quality and Health and Safety.
  • To feed into the overall plan for the development of quality within the Blackburn facility.

REPORTS TO: Quality Manager

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage inspector resourcing of the shifts (e.g absence/holiday management, overtime).
  • Manage training plan and competency matrix of Inspectors.
  • Supervise staff to ensure accurate data entry and consistent testing output to required time scales.
  • To escalate reported quality issues to operations and quality management team.
  • Support root cause analysis of non-conformities and own corrective actions related to inspection.
  • Manage inspector against performance objectives in line with company strategy.
  • Manage inspectors performance against procedure adherence and code of conduct in line with HR Policy.
  • Support documentation review and improvements related to inspection activities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Relevant experience, preferably in an inspection setting.
  • Experience in team management/supervision.
  • Minimum HND or equivalent in an engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Good understanding of standards and in requirement of these.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work as part of a team.
  • Well organized.
  • Customer focused.
  • Able to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to work flexibly.

  • Lean Principle: Stabilize and Standardize (5S, Std work, Layered audits, TPM, Visual Management). Built in Quality (Error Proofing, Special Cause Variation, Common Cause Variation, FMEA). Creating Flow (VSM's, 8 Lean Guidelines). Understand Kaizen Methodology (Daily Improvement Charts, Events, Purpose). Problem Solving (Run Charts, Pareto Charts, Cause & Effect, Gantt Charts). Plan-Do-Check-Act.
  • Communication: Open and honest in communication. Good understanding of written and verbal English. Communicates concisely, logically and in a timely fashion. Applies a wide variety of listening, questioning and explaining techniques to obtain or impart information. Ensures that others have the information they need to do their jobs; readily shares information. Accurately assesses peoples’ styles and adjusts own communication style to optimize personal effectiveness. Communicates main points rather than trivial details; keeps on track; stays on topic. Holds others’ attention. Understands how to communicate key messages.
