Overview
You love sports and you love entertainment. You’re also by chance an Underwriter currently underwriting within this line of business.
This is a rare senior sport insurance opportunity in Canada to underwrite major sporting events at the superbowl right down to kids soccer camps, amateur football leagues and everything in between. This isn’t your standard P&C Underwriter role.
They’re a top-tier sports insurer who have built their own proprietary software that handles all the boring, laborious parts such as quotes, applications, policy issuance, so Underwriters can actually do what they love doing, underwrite!
They have big intentions to be the number one player in this space and you have chance to help become a part of it.
In the US, they operate under two brands:
- One sells direct to sports camps, teams and leagues
- The other works exclusively with Brokers (MGAs/MGUs) and that’s the one being launched in Canada
They’ve got the licensing. The tech is ready.
Now they just need you, your skills and your contacts.
The role
This is not a team. Not a department.
It’s you. You’re employee #1 in Canada which will grow year on year.
You’ll:
- Underwrite sports risks flagged by the automated system (the tech does most of the grunt work)
- Work with retail and wholesale Brokers
- Use your network to bring in business
- Be a walking \”minimum viable product\” for the Canadian MGA
Think of it as part Underwriter, part business developer, part brand ambassador, but without the corny title.
Who this is for
You\’ll do well here if you:
- Actually know what you\’re doing inall things related to sport underwriting
- Have Canadian market experience and existing Broker relationships
- Have a portable book or can get people to pick up the phone
- Don’t mind being the first person through the door
- Want to write $3 million in premium in year one (doable if you’re decent)
You probably won’t like this if:
- You prefer working in a large corporate environment and have always followed a set process or routine
- You\’ve never written a sports or entertainment risk
- You do not appreciate or wish to leverage technology
The offer
- Base salary: $80K-$110k CAD
- Bonus structure: based on premium written (and yes, they actually mean it)
- Flexible working and grown up autonomy
- Opportunity to progress into a much larger role over time. The company’s success is your success
