An international law firm renowned for its sector-focused expertise is seeking an experienced Senior Associate to join its Transactional Shipping / Ship Finance team in London. With over 600 lawyers across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia, the firm combines deep industry knowledge with a progressive, commercial approach. Its lawyers advise on complex matters across shipping, aviation, construction, insurance, commodities and energy - always prioritising practical, business-oriented solutions supported by technical legal excellence.
The successful candidate will join a market-leading Shipping Group of around 250 lawyers worldwide. This integrated team advises clients across the full maritime life-cycle - from shipbuilding, sale and purchase, and finance, through to regulatory and recycling matters - and works with stakeholders across all shipping segments including dry bulk, tankers, offshore, cruise, ferries, and superyachts.
This role sits at the heart of the Transactional Shipping practice, advising on a broad range of transactions with a particular focus on one or both of the following areas:
- Shipbuilding, sale and purchase, charterparties and maritime project work
- Shipping and offshore finance (including debt, leasing, and equity structures)
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage complex transactional shipping matters.
- Draft, negotiate and advise on a range of maritime contracts.
- Take responsibility for client management and mentoring junior team members.
- Contribute actively to business development and practice growth.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the firm's international offices.
- Travel internationally as required.
About You
- 5+ years' PQE with strong experience in transactional shipping or ship finance.
- Currently operating at Senior Associate level or equivalent.
- Proven ability to manage transactions independently and lead deal teams.
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
- Commercial mindset and enthusiasm for client engagement and business development.
- Motivated, collaborative and able to thrive in a fast-paced, international environment.
