Let's cut through the noise. This role isn't about sitting in meetings, hiding behind a title, or "managing" people from a distance. I'm working with a broker who needs a proper Insurance Broking Services Manager - someone who understands commercial broking inside out, can lead a team confidently, and is still happy getting stuck into client work. If you like being hands-on, setting standards, and holding people (including yourself) accountable, this will make sense.
The role (what you'll actually be doing):
- You'll be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Commercial Account Handling team, while also managing your own portfolio of clients. This is a player-manager role.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the Commercial Account Handling team day to day
- Supporting the Team Director, who retains overall responsibility for the book
- Making sure renewals and MTAs are processed accurately and in line with company procedures
- Managing the basics properly: holidays, sickness, absence
- Identifying when the team needs hiring and leading the interview process
- Training and onboarding new starters
- Dealing with performance and conduct issues quickly and professionally
- Setting development plans and carrying out appraisals
- Personally servicing a portfolio of commercial clients
- Handling new business, renewals and mid-term adjustments
- Taking client and insurer calls and knowing when to escalate (and when not to)
What you'll need:
This role only works if you already know what you're doing. You must have:
- Strong commercial insurance broking experience
- End-to-end account handling capability
- The ability to prioritise, organise, and hit deadlines
- Confidence dealing with clients, insurers and internal stakeholders
- A problem-solving mindset - not a "that's not my job" attitude
Nice to have (but not essential):
- Previous team leader or people management experience
- Or the confidence and credibility to step into your first management role
Who this suits:
- A Senior Account Handler ready to step up
- A Team Leader who still wants to stay close to the work
- Someone frustrated by weak leadership and low standards
- Someone who wants influence, responsibility, and progression - not just a fancy title
If this sounds like you - or you're just curious - let's have a conversation.
