A growing and entrepreneurial insurance business is seeking an experienced Claims Director to take ownership of its entire claims function across a specialist commercial motor portfolio, alongside wider commercial liability and property exposures. This is a genuinely influential leadership role within a lean, commercially focused business where claims performance plays a critical part in underwriting profitability, customer outcomes and long-term growth strategy.
The position will suit an individual who combines strong technical claims expertise with commercial awareness, operational oversight and a highly hands-on approach. Rather than managing a large in-house claims department, the successful individual will oversee all outsourced claims operations and third-party supplier relationships, ensuring performance, governance and service standards are consistently achieved across the portfolio.
The Opportunity
This role requires someone capable of operating both strategically and operationally. You will work closely with senior leadership, underwriting and external partners, taking responsibility for claims philosophy, supplier management, governance frameworks and performance analysis across the business. A key part of the role will involve understanding the detail behind claims handling processes, identifying leakage, challenging supplier performance and using data insight to influence profitability and decision-making.
Responsibilities will include:
- Oversight and management of all TPAs and external claims suppliers
- Monitoring claims performance, leakage and indemnity spend
- Producing and analysing detailed MI and statistical reporting
- Influencing reserving strategy and understanding reserve development trends
- Managing fraud, credit hire and large loss strategies
- Supporting underwriting profitability through claims insight and analysis
- Supplier governance, audits and performance management
- Maintaining strong customer and regulatory outcomes
The Individual
The successful candidate will most likely come from an MGA, insurer or delegated authority environment and possess broad technical claims knowledge across motor, liability and property classes. This is not a role suited to someone who has spent their career operating within narrow silos. The business is looking for an individual with broad exposure, strong commercial awareness and the ability to take ownership across multiple areas of claims performance.
The ideal individual will:
- Have significant experience managing outsourced claims operations or third-party suppliers
- Possess strong technical claims knowledge across multiple disciplines
- Be highly analytical and comfortable working closely with data and financial reporting
- Understand reserving movements, leakage trends and performance metrics
- Be capable of operating autonomously within a lean business environment
- Have strong stakeholder and relationship management skills
- Take a pragmatic, detail-oriented and sleeves-rolled-up approach
The business values individuals who are commercially minded, accountable and capable of building trusted relationships internally and externally. An initial period of some hybrid office attendance will be required to support onboarding and integration into the wider business. For individuals seeking a genuinely broad and influential claims leadership opportunity within a growing business, this represents an excellent long-term opportunity.
