A rare leadership mandate at one of London's most ambitious reinsurance brokers.
Our client is a composite Lloyd's and London market reinsurance broker with a clear strategic vision for their treaty operation — and the ambition, the backing, and the financial firepower to execute it properly. This isn't for a custodian. It's for a builder.
The Opportunity
Treaty reinsurance is identified as one of the most significant growth priorities on the firm's strategic agenda. The London team has been restructured, a strategy paper has been approved, and the business is ready to move — all that is missing is the right person to lead it. You will inherit a functioning platform — with established reinsurer relationships, a Lloyd's presence, and a broader specialty business generating genuine cross-sell opportunity — and be given the mandate and the resources to scale it materially. This is a division that is moving from good foundations to serious ambition. The person who leads that journey will own a meaningful share of what they build. That ownership is not a vague promise. The firm operates a contractual equity participation structure with a demonstrable track record of rewarding the people who drive value creation — including multiple successful shareholder events in recent years.
The Bermudan insurance and London facultative businesses are performing strongly and provide a powerful platform for cross-referral and market credibility. Treaty is the next chapter.
What You Will Actually Do
- Take leadership of the UK treaty reinsurance operation and own its P&L trajectory.
- Build and manage a high-performing team — hiring where necessary, developing what is already there.
- Drive new client relationships and deepen existing cedent and intermediary connections across the Lloyd's and company markets.
- Work directly with leadership on strategy: product line expansion, territorial growth (particularly Europe), and cross-selling into the firm's wider specialty platform.
- Be the external face of the treaty capability — market relationships, reinsurer panels, thought leadership.
- Contribute to the wider specialty hiring committee discussions as the treaty voice at the table.
Who You Are
- You are a senior treaty reinsurance broker — probably at Director or Executive Director level — who has spent time building a book, building a team, or both.
- You know your way around a complex placement, you have a network that took years to build, and you are starting to feel the ceiling of wherever you are currently sitting.
- The ideal background is a large global broker — the kind of place where the institutional infrastructure is excellent but the ability to think and act like an owner is limited.
- Meaningful London market treaty reinsurance broking experience at senior level — we are not looking at mid-market or regional books.
- A network of cedent, intermediary, and reinsurer relationships that travel with you.
- Proven ability to lead people — informally or formally — and attract talent.
- Entrepreneurial instinct. You should be excited by the prospect of building something, not steadying something.
- Cultural alignment: collaborative, direct, commercially serious, without the politics.
The Package
- Base Salary £250,000+ dependent on experience and the strength of what you bring.
- Annual Bonus: Performance-linked, structured around revenue and team growth targets.
- Equity Participation: Contractual mechanism to share in the value you create — calculable, documented, and with a proven history of delivery.
- Benefits: Private medical, pension, life assurance, income protection.
- Location: London. Hybrid working available.
The Process...
This search is being handled confidentially by a specialist reinsurance recruitment team. Initial conversations are exploratory — no commitment required on either side.
