Production / NPI Engineer Location: Pocklington, East Yorkshire Type: Full-time, on-site
Role Purpose
Introduce new and modified products into stable manufacture and improve existing production processes. Work between design, operations and maintenance to turn ideas and customer requirements into robust, efficient shop-floor methods.
Key Responsibilities
- New Product Introduction (NPI):
- Turn concepts/requirements into manufacturable designs and assemblies.
- Produce 3D CAD models and 2D drawings (e.g. SolidWorks or similar).
- Use in-house 3D printing/rapid prototyping to prove designs and assemblies.
- Plan and run shop-floor trials, capture results, and iterate.
- Create BOMs, work instructions/SOPs and assembly documentation.
- Handover stable processes to production and support operator training.
- Review and improve existing assembly and manufacturing methods.
- Work with maintenance/toolroom on jigs, fixtures, brackets and tooling.
- Tweak layouts and methods to reduce waste, bottlenecks and rework.
- Support basic CI/problem solving on quality, uptime and productivity.
- Work with production, maintenance, quality and supply chain to solve problems and embed changes.
- Maintain clear, controlled documentation (drawings, SOPs, settings).
Candidate Profile
Essential:
- Experience in a manufacturing factory (making physical product).
- 1–5 years in Production / Manufacturing / NPI / Product Engineering or similar.
- Confident on the shop floor and hands-on in solving problems.
- 3D CAD skills (e.g. SolidWorks or similar).
- Able to write clear work instructions and basic reports; basic Excel.
Desirable:
- Exposure to plastics/injection moulding or other process industries.
- Experience in an SME (fast decisions, practical environment).
- Experience using 3D printing/rapid prototyping.
Personal:
- Practical, hands-on and curious.
- Fixes problems rather than just reporting them.
- Organised, able to juggle several small projects.
- Down-to-earth, works well with operators, engineers and managers.
