An established engineering / fabrication business near Pocklington is looking to recruit a skilled Fabricator / Welder to work on the manufacture and installation of:

  • Mezzanine floors
  • Access / fire escape stairs and walkways
  • Industrial racking and support steelwork

Key Responsibilities

Fabrication & Welding

  • Fabricate structural steel components (mezzanines, staircases, platforms, racking, brackets, handrails, etc.) from engineering drawings.
  • Perform MIG welding (and other welding processes if required) to a good standard on mild steel sections and plate.
  • Mark out, cut, drill, fit and assemble components using appropriate tools and machinery (saws, drills, grinders, punches, etc.).
  • Work to specified tolerances and ensure assemblies are square, plumb and dimensionally accurate.

Drawings & Job Control

  • Read and interpret fabrication / GA drawings and detail drawings.
  • Work with cutting lists, job cards and production plans to complete work on time.
  • Liaise with chargehands / foremen if there are drawing queries or clashes.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience as a Fabricator / Welder in general fabrication environment.
  • Confident in MIG welding on structural steel; ability to produce clean, consistent welds.
  • Able to read and work from fabrication / engineering drawings without constant supervision.
  • Competent with standard fabrication tools and machinery (cutting, drilling, grinding, bevelling, fitting).
  • Good attitude to health & safety, quality and teamwork.
  • Reliable, with good timekeeping and a flexible approach to overtime when required.

Desirable

  • Experience fabricating: mezzanine floors, staircases, handrails, balustrades, racking, access platforms.
  • Relevant qualifications (NVQ / City & Guilds / Apprenticeship in Fabrication & Welding or similar).

NOT Essential

  • Site installation experience (fitting mezzanines, stairs, racking on customer sites) is an advantage but not essential if workshop-based.

Hours, Pay & Overtime

  • Core hours: Standard day shift (e.g. Monday–Friday, days-based; exact start/finish can be tailored to client specifics).
  • Early finish Fridays as standard.
  • Overtime rate: 1.5x pay (time-and-a-half) for overtime.
