We are representing a new Internal Sales Executive opportunity with a timber business based in Hull. Working within a close-knit internal sales team, you will be a key point of contact for customers across timber products where you would be handling inbound enquiries, processing orders accurately and using your product knowledge to offer the right solution at the right price. This role suits someone with experience in timber, builders' merchants or construction materials sales who enjoys building relationships over the phone and wants to join a stable, growing business where sector knowledge is genuinely valued.
Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of trade customers, handling day-to-day enquiries by phone and email.
- Take ownership of the full internal sales process: quoting, order entry, order confirmation and post-sale follow-up.
- Use your knowledge of timber and panel products to recommend alternatives, upsell where appropriate and add value to each interaction.
- Accurately process sales orders, ensuring pricing, quantities, delivery dates and specifications are correct.
- Liaise closely with external sales, transport, production and the yard to ensure orders are delivered OTIF.
- Monitor open orders, proactively resolve issues or delays and keep customers fully informed.
- Support with pricing, raising quotes and maintaining price files in line with agreed margins.
- Build strong, long-term customer relationships through consistent, professional service.
- Contribute ideas to improve internal processes, customer service and sales performance.
Person Specification:
- Experience in internal sales or sales order processing within timber, builders' merchants or construction materials is strongly preferred.
- Solid understanding of timber/panel products or a closely related product set, with confidence speaking to trade customers.
- Comfortable managing a high volume of calls, quotes and orders while maintaining accuracy.
- Strong communication skills — professional, clear and personable over phone and email.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in sales, operations and logistics.
- Organised, proactive and able to prioritise workload to meet customer deadlines.
- IT literate with experience using order processing or ERP systems.
- Positive attitude, commercially minded and keen to develop within a specialist timber business.
