This is a rare opportunity to step into a Director of Engineering role within a business whose work genuinely improves health, wellbeing, and quality of life. The impact is direct, visible and powerful.

The organisation was founded on a simple but powerful belief: that doing good and building a commercially exceptional business are not mutually exclusive. In practice, it has proven exactly that. The company has grown from early stage startup to UK market leader (No1 in their category) in just a few years. Turnover now exceeds £40m, has more than doubled in the last two years, and the business is only moving faster, following their recent £70m Series C raise. This is a company that combines deep purpose with clear execution, scale, and ambition.

The next phase is significant. European expansion is imminent, with the US to follow shortly after. While growth is accelerating, the business remains at a stage where one senior technology leader can materially shape its future, not just how systems are built, but how the mission is delivered at scale.

The Role

The Director of Engineering will take full ownership of Technology, with particular responsibility for Engineering, Data, and practical AI adoption. You’ll define the technical vision for the next phase of growth, set the strategy for international scale, and influence how the organisation builds, operates, and evolves. A core part of the mandate is helping shape an AI first way of working, identifying where AI can genuinely improve speed, quality, leverage, and decision making, and then making that real through systems, workflows, and tools that create meaningful, measurable impact.

This is not a role for someone interested in AI at a distance. The expectation is curiosity, judgement, and pragmatism, understanding where AI adds value, separating signal from hype, and embedding it into how teams work day to day. You’ll inherit a high quality engineering team and have real autonomy to shape the organisation, whether that’s raising standards, refining structures, or growing capability across engineering and data as the business scales internationally.

You’ll work closely with the CEO and senior leadership to translate company goals into clear engineering, data, and AI priorities, with a strong bias toward execution over strategy decks. A key part of the mandate is improving engineering effectiveness, delivery predictability, and technical quality, while applying AI not just within engineering, but across systems, workflows, and decision making where it creates real commercial impact.

Who They’re Looking For

This role suits a senior engineering leader (Head/Director of) who is credible with engineers and commercial stakeholders alike, and who is genuinely excited by the practical potential of AI.

  • Experience leading engineering teams in fast moving environments, creating clarity, pace, and accountability
  • Strong technical depth, able to support teams, challenge effectively, and make sound platform and system decisions
  • A strong grasp of current AI tools, trends, and patterns, with the judgement to focus on real opportunities over noise
  • A track record of driving change through execution, not just strategy or vision decks
  • Comfort operating as both a leader and, when needed, a hands on problem solver
  • Experience bringing engineering, data, and AI together around the highest value opportunities
  • Strong cross functional influence, including work at CEO and senior leadership level
  • A commercial, pragmatic mindset with a bias toward impact and outcomes

Experience in a scale up, subscription, operational, or DTC style business is a plus, but not essential.

Why This Is Different

  • Mission led business with real, meaningful impact on health and wellbeing
  • Series C completed, clearly successful, highly profitable, and scaling fast
  • UK market leader with £40m plus turnover, doubled in two years
  • Senior leadership team with deep experience scaling and exiting category defining businesses
  • Genuine autonomy and influence at leadership level
  • Clear ambition to build as an AI first organisation, focused on practical application over buzzwords
  • A growth stage where technology leadership directly shapes what the business becomes
