Joining a small but busy consultancy who are engaged on a key Government Secure programme, designing and delivering secure-by-default digital platforms for a high-assurance environment on critical national infrastructure. They are currently supporting a landmark transformation programme involving a cross-government secure IT system, helping architect and deliver a sovereign private cloud capability designed for high-assurance operational environments.
This is an opportunity to shape a modern secure platform from the ground up and influence the end-user services underpinning national decision-making.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Solution Architect to join one of our embedded government secure delivery squads. You will be responsible for designing secure, scalable, and high-quality technical solutions while guiding multidisciplinary delivery teams to implement them effectively within highly regulated environments. This is a hands-on architecture role suited to someone who combines strategic thinking with delivery pragmatism and enjoys working closely with engineering teams to turn architecture into operational capability.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Develop end-to-end architectural designs and frameworks for complex secure systems
- Ensure solutions meet requirements for scalability, resilience, security, and operational performance
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather business and technical requirements
- Translate requirements into actionable technical specifications and delivery backlogs
- Provide architectural oversight and technical guidance throughout delivery lifecycles
- Assess existing platforms and recommend modernisation, enhancement, or replacement strategies
- Support secure cloud and hybrid infrastructure design decisions
- Facilitate workshops and communicate architectural concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Mentor architects and engineers while promoting engineering best practice and continuous improvement
- Contribute to architecture governance, assurance, and technical decision-making within secure programmes
Essential Experience
- Proven experience as a Solution Architect within complex technology environments
- Strong understanding of:
- Hybrid and on-prem architectures
- Cloud computing principles
- Microservices architectures
- Enterprise integration patterns
- Experience designing and assuring solutions within secure or high-assurance environments
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Experience working within UK Government, defence, national security, or wider public sector programmes
- Ability to operate effectively within multidisciplinary Agile delivery teams
Desirable Experience
- Experience with Kubernetes and/or Google Distributed Cloud (GDC)
- Experience working within disconnected or restricted environments
- Understanding of:
- GDS Service Standard
- Cabinet Office governance frameworks
- NCSC guidance
- Experience working within or alongside SAFe Agile Release Trains (ARTs)
- Relevant certifications such as:
- TOGAF
- Google Professional Cloud Architect
- AWS Certifications
Clearance Requirements
This role requires active SC Clearance. Candidates must also be willing to undergo Developed Vetting (DV). Due to client security restrictions, applicants must hold UK Citizenship.
