Are you passionate about driving environmental innovation through science? We’re seeking a visionary Principal Environmental Scientist to embed sustainability at the heart of product design for a global, values-led consumer products company.
This role blends hands-on research, product development, and education. You’ll explore cutting-edge chemistry, packaging, and life cycle innovations to reduce environmental and human health impacts, while also raising the organisation’s collective Environmental IQ (E’IQ).
You’ll act as a knowledge catalyst—empowering product developers worldwide to make responsible, sustainable choices and aligning product innovation with customer and supplier sustainability strategies.
What You’ll Do
- Research and evaluate new materials, technologies, and packaging solutions to reduce environmental impact.
- Perform product life cycle assessments (LCAs) and generate actionable insights to guide design choices.
- Lead initial development and lab work to assess technical feasibility and secure intellectual property.
- Conduct independent research and present findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Design and deliver training/educational content for global teams (adapting for cultural differences).
- Partner with customers and suppliers to align sustainability priorities with product strategies.
- Advise on emerging environmental regulations and sustainability frameworks.
- Collaborate with Innovation & Supply Chain teams to embed sustainability in product design and value chain (Scope 3 reductions).
What You’ll Bring
- Master’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related field (PhD preferred).
- Strong experience in consumer product (CPG) design & development.
- Interest in Green Chemistry and/or sustainable packaging.
- Knowledge of LCAs, carbon accounting tools, ISO methods, and global data standards.
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams.
- Comfortable engaging directly with suppliers/customers on sustainability strategies.
- Proactive, self-driven, and passionate about continuous learning and innovation.
- Note: Backgrounds limited to air, water, or gas science are not suitable – consumer product experience is key.
What’s on Offer
- Competitive salary + profit incentive rewards.
- Comprehensive health, wellness & financial benefits.
- Work-life balance: short-day Fridays, paid holidays + an extra week off over Christmas.
- This organisation exists to create positive, lasting impact in everything it does. Its culture is values-driven, collaborative, and purpose-led.
