We are supporting a Government Agency in the search for an experienced Project Manager to join their Programme & Project Delivery team, delivering infrastructure projects that reduce flood risk and improve environmental resilience across the North East.

The successful candidate will manage projects from development and design through to construction and handover, working with contractors, technical specialists, local authorities, landowners and community stakeholders.

Candidates must have project delivery experience within one or more of the following sectors:

  • Water
  • Civil Engineering
  • Infrastructure
  • Construction
  • Highways
  • Rail
  • Nuclear

You must also have:

  • Experience managing projects through planning, design, construction and handover
  • Project and contract management experience
  • Experience managing budgets, programme schedules, risks and project controls
  • Experience working with contractors, consultants and multidisciplinary teams
  • Active management of health, safety and wellbeing
  • Proficiency with MS Project, Excel, Teams and related project delivery tools

Mandatory Requirements

Applications will only be considered from candidates who:

  • Live within reasonable commuting distance of Newcastle and the wider North East region
  • Can attend the office and project sites a minimum of 2 days per week
  • Have demonstrable experience delivering physical infrastructure or engineering projects
  • Are eligible to obtain BPSS clearance

Suitable locations include Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, Durham, Middlesbrough, Carlisle, Chester-le-Street, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear and surrounding areas.

Highly Desirable

  • Projects Online experience
  • Chartered status (ICE, APM, CIWEM or equivalent)
  • Degree in Engineering, Environmental Management, Construction Management or related discipline
  • Experience within flood and coastal risk management

What We Are Not Looking For

This role is not suitable for:

  • Project Managers whose experience is primarily within IT, Software Development, Digital Transformation, Business Change, ERP, CRM or Cyber Security programmes
  • Candidates without experience delivering physical infrastructure, engineering or construction projects
  • Candidates based outside the North East who are unable to regularly attend Newcastle offices and project sites
  • Professionals seeking fully remote opportunities
  • PMO Analysts, Project Coordinators, Project Support Officers or Project Administrators who have not held full Project Manager responsibility
  • Candidates whose experience is limited to operational, service delivery or business-as-usual environments without infrastructure project delivery exposure
