Responsibilities
The purpose of the Gap Leader is to continuously align the available resources (team members, materials, and machines) to the production gaps enabling the shift to maintain productivity. The Gap Leader position is accountable for the production scheduled to be completed on time, with all Safety, Quality, and Engineering process parameters achieved; while developing their teams’ effectiveness and promoting their growth. The Gap Leader is accountable for the discipline in his/her area and the respect of production rules, WIP organization and people behavior.
Lead the 7 basics:
- 1/ Check Sheet (1st article check) & Control plans
- 2/ Operators Skill matrix and Std Work (TWI)
- 3/ Run Chart and KPI monitoring
- 4/ Reaction rules & visual Andon system
- 5/ QRCI and analysis tools
- 6/ Shift hand-over & Standard routines
- 7/ 5S and TWI auditing
Work safety
- Exhibit Self Control and Discipline
- Follow and comply with all OSHA and company safety procedures
- Enforce Safety procedures to include Personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements
- Maintain a clean and safe work place in accordance with 5S protocol and communicate suggestions
Ensure team follows standardized work
- Educate team members to benefits of process improvement
- ALWAYS ask for the standard in case of issues/deviation
Ensure the job breakdowns are written using the TWI training standards
- Participate in the creation/improvement of standards for daily operations
- Audit standardized work for continuous improvement
Promote Jidoka (Detect->STOP->Fix->Analyze)
- Stop and address quality problems immediately
- Detect issue using ANDON system (Lights, visual management) and Red bins process
- Patrolling and random check to detect deviation of the process or quality
- Do not pass bad work forward to next station
- Monitor and Report wastage
Coordinate GAP work following the Gap Leader routine
- Lead Top 5 meeting with team daily
- Follow daily routines
- Fill in the standard Management Control sheet
- Ensure the area KPI monitoring and data update
- Participate to shift hand-over with next shift GAP Lead
- Drive participation of all team members
- Ensure productivity of all employees assigned to the designated shift
- Enable effective communications between management and operators
- Build and develop skills matrix of team
- Monitor absenteeism of the area and escalate to supervisor
- Arrange resources in the area according to daily priorities and bottlenecks
- Covers absenteeism of the area team members up to 70% of the shift
- Train and evaluate new employees and coach existing employees based on Standard Work (SW)
- Operate equipment according to job breakdown (TWI)
- Develop, implement, and deliver training programs using TWI methodology
- Consult with supervisors to effectively complete training plan on time

Observe trainees successfully demonstrating job breakdowns for competency

Be flexible to adjust shift schedule to train and provide feedback to trainees and supervision

Respond to requests for manufacturing training assistance as needed

Conduct training sessions for production skills (Job Instruction and 3 star method)

Evaluate TWI job breakdowns to ensure operators perform the operations as stated

Assist the Engineers in process reviews, development of work instructions, and improvement to existing work instruction

Track and communicate the completion of training on production floor, adhering to training plan

Monitor wastes, output & OEE (downtime)

Record the Production results of the area in Navision or equivalent, show as down time for the indicator(OEE) where needed

Audit and monitor the 5S, cleanliness and workstation of the area at the beginning of each shift

Audit the WIP area organization and assess the load for the entire shift and escalate to Supervisors

Support Autonomous and 1st Level maintenance activities (TPM)
Qualifications
- Ability to perform basic math functions.
- Mechanical aptitude
- High School Diploma or General education degree (GED)
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft office applications
- Navigate production machine software programs within standard work
