Senior Medical Science Liaison (West - CA)

IDEAYA is a precision medicine oncology company committed to the discovery, development, and commercialization of transformative therapies for cancer. Our approach integrates expertise in small‑molecule drug discovery, structural biology and bioinformatics with robust internal capabilities in identifying and validating translational biomarkers to develop tailored, potentially first‑in‑class targeted therapies aligned to the genetic drivers of disease. We have built a deep pipeline of product candidates focused on synthetic lethality and antibody‑drug conjugates, or ADCs, for molecularly defined solid tumor indications. We are seeking an experienced Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) to join IDEAYA’s medical team. The Senior MSL serves as a key scientific communicator for IDEAYA, acting as the key conduit of medical and scientific information within a designated geographic region. This role blends strategic vision with clinical expertise and deep therapeutic area knowledge to support both external healthcare professionals and internal cross‑functional teams. The Senior MSL is responsible for cultivating and maintaining credible, peer‑level relationships with key opinion leaders and other stakeholders. Through these relationships, the Senior MSL provides deep scientific and medical insights that inform IDEAYA’s initiatives and priorities. Additionally, the Senior MSL facilitates the exchange of clinical and scientific information, delivers educational support, and fosters research collaborations related to current and emerging therapies. The Senior MSL consistently adheres to internal standard operating procedures and complies with all regulatory and compliance requirements, while maintaining up‑to‑date expertise in disease state management, emerging therapies, and the evolving treatment landscape.

The Senior Medical Science Liaison reports to the Senior Director of the U.S. Medical Science Liaison team. This role is a field‑based position and the incumbent must reside in California.

What You’ll Do

• Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of scientific content, educational materials, disease state knowledge, and therapeutic area expertise to establish credibility as a trusted scientific authority.
• Partner with physicians to advance Medical Affairs initiatives including publications, medical education, and advisory boards.
• Deliver up‑to‑date scientific education and insights on IDEAYA disease states, the evolving therapeutic landscape, and IDEAYA’s products across the development lifecycle to healthcare and allied healthcare professionals.
• Effectively communicate clinical insights from new scientific data back to Medical Affairs to support the development of therapeutic area strategy.
• Support research initiatives in collaboration with IDEAYA’s Clinical Research team. Responsibilities may include site evaluation and identification, patient recruitment support, participation in investigator meetings, identification of external experts, and management of collaborative research partnerships.
• Collect data and derive scientific insights from stakeholder engagements, delivering actionable feedback to the organization.

Requirements

• Advanced degree (MD, PharmD, or PhD) in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, or other medical‑related disciplines preferred.
• 2-5 years or more of relevant experience, with Oncology as a preferred therapeutic area.
• Demonstrated ability to comprehend and effectively communicate extensive scientific information in a clear, concise, and accessible manner.
• Exemplifies a strong patient‑centric and customer‑focused approach, grounded in the highest standards of medical professionalism.
• Proven excellence in both oral and written communication.
• Agile, adaptable, results‑orientated.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and reside within 50 miles of a major airport.
• Applicants must be willing to travel approximately 60–70% of the time.
• Must reside in California.

The expected salary range for the field‑based role of Senior Medical Science Liaison is $192,000 – $237,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will depend on several factors that may include, but are not limited to, the position’s location, the candidate’s experience within their profession, experience in the disease areas we are targeting, length of time within the industry, educational background, and performance during the interview process.
