Role Purpose

Location: Ruddington, Nottinghamshire

Level: Strategic Leader

Mazlan+ Models is Ideagen’s most significant investment in AI to date, building trusted, domain‑specific AI capabilities for regulated industries. As Head of AI Engineering, you will build Ideagen’s AI engineering function from the ground up and lead it end to end. This is a senior leadership role where you will shape the strategy, architecture, and culture behind a platform that will define the future of Ideagen’s products. You will lead multiple specialist teams, work closely with executive leadership, and be accountable for delivering AI systems that customers can rely on where accuracy and compliance are critical.

Responsibilities

  • Owning the end‑to‑end strategy, roadmap, and delivery for Ideagen’s AI engineering function across models, data, MLOps, agentic experiences, and domain expertise
  • Building and leading specialist teams across five AI practice areas and growing the organisation toward 30 to 40 engineers at scale
  • Setting the technical and architectural direction for the AI platform, including inference systems, orchestration, model adapters, and serving infrastructure
  • Establishing engineering standards and responsible AI practices that meet ISO 42001 and the expectations of regulated customers
  • Embedding AI‑native ways of working by setting the standard for modern, agent‑assisted engineering productivity across all teams
  • Owning senior vendor and cloud relationships and making strategic decisions on model and infrastructure partnerships
  • Representing Ideagen’s AI capabilities internally and externally, translating technical outcomes into clear business value
  • Taking accountability for programme budgets, investment decisions, and measurable return on AI engineering spend

Skills And Experience

  • You have led a substantial AI or ML engineering organisation and scaled teams across multiple specialist disciplines
  • You bring deep applied AI and LLM expertise and can make informed architectural trade‑offs with senior engineers
  • You have delivered production AI systems at scale, including MLOps, inference infrastructure, experimentation and observability
  • You actively use modern AI‑assisted development tools yourself and can demonstrate AI‑native productivity in practice
  • You are comfortable operating at executive level and framing engineering decisions in commercial and strategic terms
  • You have experience working in regulated or safety‑critical environments where failure carries real consequences
  • You build strong leadership teams and invest in clear progression, development and engineering culture
  • Experience with formal AI governance frameworks or domain knowledge in EHS, quality or compliance is an advantage
