Independent Distribution Connection Specialists Limited (IDCSL) is a fully licensed Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO) operating within the UK electricity industry. We own and operate electrical distribution networks and work closely with Independent Connection Providers (ICPs), developers, consultants, and end clients to deliver flexible, reliable, and cost-effective connection solutions. Our projects exclusively focus on non-residential developments, including Industrial & Commercial schemes, Electric Vehicle (EV) infrastructure, generation and storage, data centres, and other emerging energy and infrastructure markets. IDCSL does not operate in the residential or domestic connections market. IDCSL is committed to delivering a high-quality customer experience and expanding its UK footprint through strong partnerships and a forward-thinking, customer-focused approach.

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Business Development Manager (BDM) to drive growth across key regions including the North Midlands, Yorkshire, North East, North West, and Scotland. This is a full lifecycle business development role, with responsibility for originating new business opportunities, developing and managing project bids from initial engagement through to agreement, and building long-term relationships across the non-residential energy infrastructure market. The role is remote-based, with regular travel essential for client meetings, site visits, internal collaboration, and industry events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business Origination & Market Development
    • Proactively identifying, originating, and qualifying new business opportunities across target regions and non-residential sectors.
    • Developing and maintaining relationships with ICPs, EV infrastructure providers, commercial and industrial developers, consultants, generators, storage providers, and end clients.
    • Monitoring regional market activity, competitor positioning, and upcoming opportunities.
  • Bid & Proposal Management
    • Taking ownership of the preparation, coordination, submission, and management of project bids and proposals.
    • Gathering and analysing technical, commercial, and programme information to assess project suitability for IDCSL asset adoption and investment.
    • Working closely with internal commercial, engineering, and leadership teams to develop robust, competitive proposals.
    • Managing customer proposals through clarification, negotiation, and agreement stages, ensuring a professional and responsive customer experience.
  • Performance Management & Reporting
    • Working to agreed annual business development and sales targets.
    • Building, maintaining, and managing a structured and transparent sales pipeline.
    • Providing regular reporting on sales performance, pipeline progression, and bid status in line with internal governance and forecasting requirements.
  • Relationship Management & Representation
    • Acting as a key point of contact for customers throughout the project development phase.
    • Representing IDCSL at industry events, client meetings, and business forums.
    • Supporting a positive, consistent, and customer-focused brand presence across all engagements.

Candidate Profile

Essential

  • Experience in a business development, commercial, or sales role within utilities, energy, infrastructure, or a closely related sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to originate new business opportunities and manage them through to agreement or contract.
  • Experience preparing, managing, and presenting commercial bids or proposals.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to balance customer requirements with business objectives.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote role while collaborating effectively with internal teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly across the UK.

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience within the electricity connections market, including IDNO, ICP, DNO/DSO, or EV infrastructure environments.
  • An established network within the UK energy infrastructure or utilities sector.
  • Familiarity with the regulatory and commercial framework associated with non-residential electricity connections and asset adoption.
