You will be responsible for supporting the Buyer/Senior Buyer with supplier negotiations in line with the category strategy. You will help select and negotiate product ranges and pricing. You are accountable for ensuring that the buyer has the full facts on the competition to ensure that our cost pricing allows us to remain competitive for customers while maximising EBIT return and securing adequate differentiation against competitors.

You will need to have great relationship building skills, working closely with our supplier partners, the go-to-market team, online and operations teams. Commercial acumen is a must as you will be required to support our analysis of trading performance, providing recommendations of actions to drive our business. Our ideal candidate will be organised and self-motivated in order to prioritise their work whilst having strong attention to detail to ensure everything is right first time. Role overview

  • Support the buyer with management of supplier relationships in line with our overall commercial supplier strategy and the category strategy.
  • Work with suppliers to develop a strong understanding of the future device roadmap, enabling the category to adequately plan ahead for likely changes in customer trends and demand.
  • Negotiating product ranges – cost pricing, additional terms, exclusivity, distribution, stock availability.
  • Negotiating promotional funding support to drive sales while maintaining margin in line with financial objectives.
  • Management of the promotional plans and sales out allowances.
  • Work closely with buyer and the category planner to secure supplier support to drive additional sales and margin where opportunity for upside exists, and particularly to mitigate risks against committed financial objectives.
  • Analysing trading performance and recommending actions to drive our business.
  • Responsible for competitor checks to ensure that CPI targets are met but also ensure that the buyer is aware of any additional promotional activity in the market.

Required qualifications

  • Experience working with suppliers or within a commercial or buying team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, supported by creative, solution driven thinking.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills to review data and provide recommendations/actions plans to drive sales, profit and cash.
  • Strong commercial awareness and a sense of customer needs.
  • Good inter-personal and communication skills, capable of working cross functionally to achieve the desired results.
