Are you an experienced payroll professional looking for a role where your expertise genuinely matters? This is an opportunity to join a large, complex organisation at a pivotal point of change. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring thousands of employees are paid accurately and on time, while also helping shape the future of payroll through the implementation of a new HR & payroll system. This is not a routine payroll role. It’s a senior, trusted position with real autonomy, influence, and long-term stability.
The role
As a Payroll Advisor, you’ll sit within a highly experienced payroll team and act as a technical lead on end-to-end payroll delivery. You’ll work across multiple payrolls and employee groups, supporting business-as-usual delivery while contributing to system transformation and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading end-to-end payroll processing, including RTI submissions, payovers and reconciliations.
- Supporting and quality-assuring multiple high-volume payrolls.
- Acting as a senior escalation point for complex payroll, tax, NI and pension queries.
- Contributing to payroll system development, testing, upgrades and statutory changes.
- Supporting the implementation of a new HR & payroll system, including parallel runs and user acceptance testing.
- Ensuring compliance with PAYE, NI, pensions and internal financial controls.
- Working collaboratively with HR, Finance, ICT and external bodies such as HMRC and pension providers.
- Providing task-based guidance and support to colleagues within the payroll function.
What we’re looking for
You’ll ideally have:
- Significant experience in transactional payroll, leading or owning end-to-end payroll processes.
- Experience working with large or complex payrolls (volume and complexity matter).
- Strong technical knowledge of PAYE, NI, pensions and statutory payroll requirements.
- Confidence working autonomously and taking responsibility for payroll outcomes.
- Experience supporting or contributing to payroll system implementations or upgrades.
- A collaborative mindset, able to support others, share knowledge and keep the team moving forward.
Why this role?
- A permanent, long-term opportunity offering stability and progression.
- A genuine chance to add value, not just process transactions.
- Exposure to a major system transformation project.
- Flexible, hybrid working and a supportive, experienced team.
- Strong pension, generous annual leave and benefits.
- A role where payroll expertise is respected and relied upon.
This is a challenging role but one with real purpose! If you’re an experienced payroll professional looking for your next meaningful move or a role where your knowledge will truly be valued, I’d love to speak with you. Apply now or reach out to us directly for a confidential conversation.
