The Role
The Insurance Team in Edinburgh is expanding, and is seeking an experienced Associate (4+ PQE) to join a busy, market-leading practice. The role will involve:
- Defending professional indemnity disputes – especially claims against financial professionals, solicitors, and insurance brokers
- Advising on financial lines (e.g. W&I), cyber risks, and complex policy coverage issues
- Working on construction all risks disputes (both domestic and international), along with broader insurance coverage and advisory work
- Engaging with both contentious and advisory matters in a way that combines technical depth with commercial insight
What You’ll Be Doing
- Advising major insurers and brokers, taking on substantial responsibility early in your role
- Providing client-facing, pragmatic, and technically sound advice in high-stakes disputes
- Drafting pleadings, coverage opinions, policy wordings, and other critical documentation
- Taking a proactive role in business development and nurturing your professional network
- Being supported through structured training, development, and mentorship from senior lawyers
About You
- You hold 4 to 7 PQE, ideally with prior experience in a commercial or insurance litigation team
- Qualified under Scots law, or dual-qualified
- Demonstrable experience in professional indemnity claims; coverage experience in other classes also welcomed
- Excellent drafting, project management, and interpersonal skills
- Sound commercial judgement and the ability to manage a diverse and challenging caseload
