The Role

The Insurance Team in Edinburgh is expanding, and is seeking an experienced Associate (4+ PQE) to join a busy, market-leading practice. The role will involve:

  • Defending professional indemnity disputes – especially claims against financial professionals, solicitors, and insurance brokers
  • Advising on financial lines (e.g. W&I), cyber risks, and complex policy coverage issues
  • Working on construction all risks disputes (both domestic and international), along with broader insurance coverage and advisory work
  • Engaging with both contentious and advisory matters in a way that combines technical depth with commercial insight

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Advising major insurers and brokers, taking on substantial responsibility early in your role
  • Providing client-facing, pragmatic, and technically sound advice in high-stakes disputes
  • Drafting pleadings, coverage opinions, policy wordings, and other critical documentation
  • Taking a proactive role in business development and nurturing your professional network
  • Being supported through structured training, development, and mentorship from senior lawyers

About You

  • You hold 4 to 7 PQE, ideally with prior experience in a commercial or insurance litigation team
  • Qualified under Scots law, or dual-qualified
  • Demonstrable experience in professional indemnity claims; coverage experience in other classes also welcomed
  • Excellent drafting, project management, and interpersonal skills
  • Sound commercial judgement and the ability to manage a diverse and challenging caseload
