Maintenance Assistant - The role

As a Maintenance Assistant, you will ensure that all electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems within the property operate efficiently and safely.

You’ll play a key role in maintaining the hotel’s functionality and compliance, supporting both planned and reactive maintenance to uphold The Lygon Arms’ legendary standards.

Benefit from flexible working: 8-hour shifts between 8:00am and 6:00pm, 5 days out of 7.

Maintenance Assistant - About You

You should be a practical person who is confident with a range of maintenance and repair tasks expected in a quality hospitality environment.

You will be a team player looking for a fresh challenge and keen to learn new skills in a sometimes demanding role with job deadlines.

  • Knowledge of general building maintenance (electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and HVAC) is essential.
  • Familiarity with kitchen and laundry equipment maintenance is desirable.
  • Proven ability to manage time effectively and prioritise competing tasks.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Maintenance Assistant - Key duties

• Tasks vary but typically include

  • Carry out repair and maintenance tasks across the hotel efficiently and safely
  • Inspect and maintain guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities
  • Perform plumbing repairs, light electrical work, and fire alarm testing
  • Maintain boilers, plant & water pump systems, air handling units, and swimming pool systems
  • Implement preventive maintenance schedules and conduct compliance checks
  • Respond promptly to urgent repairs and diagnose faults across systems
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, reports, and inventory records
  • Liaise with contractors and assist with spare parts ordering
  • Support training of new team members in maintenance procedures
  • Collaborate with all departments to resolve issues quickly and professionally
