Join ICOMAT – Revolutionising the Future of Lightweight Manufacturing!
iCOMAT is an advanced manufacturing company that invented Rapid Tow Shearing (RTS) – the only proven technology for producing defect‑free curved‑fiber composite parts at industrial scale. We deliver the lightest structures possible for aerospace, automotive, defense, and space, at a rate and cost efficiency that far exceeds existing composite production processes.
We build and operate automated factories for composite materials, delivering components to Tier 1 suppliers and OEMs. The business has three main divisions: development of automated production machines, development of software design and production tools, and operation of the factory. We work with 25+ customers and completed the largest ever Series A in composites manufacturing to fuel a significant scale‑up, with growth plans that will see the business multiply in size over the next two to three years and expand operations into the UK, Europe and the US.
The business has currently more than 130 000 sqm of production capacity with manufacturing facilities in the UK (Gloucester and Swindon) and the US (Dayton, Ohio); a Hardware R&D Centre in Bristol, UK; and a Software R&D Centre in Athens, Greece.
You will be the technical engine of the Swindon CNC shop. From the moment an enquiry lands, you will lead the manufacturing engineering work that turns a drawing into a credible quote, then into a production‑ready package once the order is won. You will work alongside our wider Manufacturing Engineering team and report into the leadership running the site.
This is a hands‑on, high‑impact role at a site that is on track to deliver £1m+ of revenue this year and to scale from there.
Responsibilities
- Lead the manufacturing engineering input into customer quotations: process planning, cycle‑time estimation, tooling strategy, fixturing approach and accurate cost build‑up.
- Produce complete production documentation for won work: routings, work instructions, setup sheets and inspection plans.
- Develop and optimise CNC programmes (3, 4 and 5‑axis milling, plus turning) for aerospace‑grade metallic components.
- Specify and procure cutting tools, fixtures and gauges to deliver parts on time and to print.
- Engineer and document the tooling and jigs that support iCOMAT's composite manufacturing operations.
- Drive continuous improvement on the shop floor: cycle‑time reduction, scrap elimination, first‑time‑right delivery.
- Be the technical point of contact with customers on DFM feedback, technical queries and FAIRs.
Qualifications – Must Have
- Proven manufacturing engineering experience in a precision CNC machining environment, ideally aerospace or another regulated sector.
- Strong process planning, quotation and costing skills for machined metallic components.
- Confident reading and interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T and aerospace tolerances.
- Hands‑on experience with a CAM package (Mastercam, NX CAM, Esprit or equivalent).
- Sharp commercial instinct. A quote is a promise, and you build it accordingly.
- Clarity, discipline and ownership. You finish what you start, and you keep the team aligned while you do it.
Nice to Have
- Direct experience with Tier 1 aerospace primes.
- Experience inside an AS9100 quality system.
- Exposure to composite tooling and jig design.
- Lean or Six Sigma training.
Values
- Discipline over excuses. We commit, we follow through and we hold ourselves and each other to the highest standard, especially when the pressure is on.
- Push the edge. iCOMAT was built on a refusal to accept that curved fiber could not be manufactured at scale. We innovate where others hesitate.
- Aligned and accountable. Everyone owns their lane, communicates openly, and delivers without being chased. No silos. No ambiguity.
Benefits
- Competitive Salary & Benefits – comprehensive package including private healthcare and pension scheme.
- Stock Options – equity options to give employees a stake in the company’s success.
- Career Growth Opportunities – unmatched professional growth opportunities in the rapidly advancing field of composite materials.
- Innovation‑Focused Culture – inclusive, forward‑thinking work environment recognized by Bloomberg as a “UK Startup to Watch.” Diversity is encouraged.
- Global Impact – be part of our mission to redefine lightweight structures for the automotive, aerospace, and space industries.
