Reporting to both the CNS Design Manager, you will scope, design, cost and produce proposals for active and passive CNS solutions that meet and exceed our clients' Smart Building aspirations. Converged Networks are at the very core of every smart building solution and ensuring the design, operability, security, resilience and cost of these network systems is essential in ensuring compliance with client requirements and competitiveness in the market place.

This is a full time role where you will integrate into the Design Team and work closely with the Project Teams, clients, the project Consultants and all project IP stakeholders. This role includes all aspects of pre-sales and pre-construction works, from initial enquiry stage design interpretations through to Stage 4 pre-construction design enhancements.

70% of the role will involve the production of passive network infrastructure designs, inclusive of fibre optic and blown fibre backbone cabling, Category 6/6A/7 cabling, containment system reviews and recommendations, Equipment Room layouts, cabinet layouts, cabling runout schedules and patching schedules. The other 30% will include the active network design in conjunction with the Network Architect, inclusive of the production of technical submissions, schematic drawings for active network proposals (Firewalls, Core Switches, Access & Distribution Switches, Wi-Fi Controllers, Access Points, UPS systems etc).

Candidates will ideally have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the design of construction-based IT Network or CNS projects with values up to £3m. Ideally with experience of reading and understanding consultant issued structured cabling & active network specifications. Knowledgeable of the design processes from TIDP/IRS formulation through to construction issued drawings and the full approval process in between.

Be capable of raising RFI’s and developing employer’s requirements into value engineered, standards compliant network designs as part of the Design Team. Candidates will have a strong knowledge of, and be confident in the design of systems in the following disciplines:

  • Structured Cabling Systems (Cat 6, 6A, 7, Singlemode, Multimode Fibre & Bloduct systems)
  • LAN, WAN and WLAN technologies & services
  • Firewalls, VLANs, Network & Cyber Security
  • Servers (including Virtualised Server Environments) & Network Management platforms
  • Voice over IP (VoIP) principles

You will need to be:

  • A strong and confident communicator.
  • Enthusiastic, punctual and a strong team player.
  • Open minded with the systematic approach to design and problem solving.

Qualifications (not essential if previous experience is strong but the preference would be for):

  • Either CNIDP or BICSI RCDD is essential (or a willingness to complete this training within 12 months)
  • HND, City & Guilds or higher qualification in an IT network discipline
  • System/design training certification from Cisco, HPE Aruba, Allied Telesis or Alcatel Lucent.
  • Infrastructure design training certification from Leviton, Panduit or Excel.
  • System experience with AutoCad/AutoCad LT, Visio and other common design tools such as Bluebeam.
  • Familiarity with project design tracking & collaboration platforms such as Aconex, Kahua, Viewpoint 4 Projects (V4P)
  • CSCS or ECS clearance.

Package:

  • Permanent Salaried Position - £45,000-£60,000 per annum depending on experience
  • Part home working but at least 50% office based (London/Slough)/site office attendance (London).
  • 6 month probationary period
  • 40 Hours on site per week (Monday to Friday including lunch breaks)
