This is a unique opportunity to lead an engineering team at the world’s only polyhalite mine. As an Electrical Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of critical assets.
The role is multidisciplinary and will cover both electrical and mechanical engineering disciplines. You will manage large-scale engineering operations and lead a skilled team of around 100 professionals. You will be responsible for significant OPEX budgets and support the team in developing capital investment plans. Your leadership will directly impact safety, productivity, and the adoption of best-in-class maintenance and engineering practices in a heavy industrial environment. This is a high-profile position within the mine, reporting to the Head of Engineering, and offers a chance to shape long-term strategy while driving immediate improvements in asset reliability, safety and efficiency.
The Role Responsibilities
- Safety & Compliance
- Act as Mines Regulations 2014 appointee, ensuring statutory compliance and reporting.
- Lead safety activities, embedding a strong safety-first culture across engineering teams.
- Keep up to date with legislation and champion continuous improvement of health, safety and environmental performance.
- Engineering Leadership
- Lead, motivate and develop a multidisciplinary team of ~100 engineers, supervisors, and tradespeople.
- Set and enforce engineering standards across the mine to ensure safe and reliable operations.
- Asset & Maintenance Management
- Develop and implement long-term asset management and maintenance strategies.
- Ensure the maintenance strategies remain up to date, effective, and support compliance with relevant legislation.
- Drive improvements in reliability engineering and promote the adoption of innovative practices and technologies.
- Project & Financial Management
- Lead the planning and delivery of major engineering projects from concept through to execution.
- Manage significant OPEX maintenance budgets (approx. £8M) and oversee capital investments.
- Apply commercial awareness to ensure engineering activities are cost-effective and aligned with business needs.
- Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with senior leaders across Mining, Operations, and Safety functions.
- Present performance updates, KPIs, and project progress to senior management.
- Build strong relationships with suppliers and contractors to deliver quality and value.
The Role Requirements
Essential:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards.
- Significant experience leading teams in heavy industry or a high hazard environment (e.g. COMAH sites, mining, power generation, oil & gas, steel, chemicals).
- Strong knowledge of engineering maintenance techniques and asset reliability.
- Proven ability to manage large teams and substantial budgets.
- Excellent communication and decision-making skills.
Desirable:
- Background in reliability engineering.
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent safety qualification.
